LELAND S. LAUFENBURG AND SYLVESTER G. PEARSON, 10F STOCKTON, CALIFQRNIA.
Enanta,SUPPORTING. FRAME.
serial No. 718,644.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, LELAND S. LAD-EEN BURG and SYLVESTER G. PEARsoN, citizens of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Engine-Supporting Frames; and we do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This inventionrelates to improvements in engine supporting frames, the main object of the invention being to produce a portable engine supporting frame adapted to receive engines or motors of all kinds for. the purpose of working upon the same for making repairs or similar work.
A further object of the invention is to produce an underslung frame mounted in said portable frame and capable of being revolved around a pivotal point in any desired manner in order to enable-any part of -the engine or motor to be reached. Said underslung frame may be made, as will appear, so that itcan be adjusted to such a nicety with respect to the weight of the engine or motor that such engine will so hang in the frame as to permit the same to be turned in a complete circle without any 'eiiort whatsoever.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly elective for. the purposes for which it is designed. v
These objects, we accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of the parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device. Figr is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3"is a detached view shown characters of reference on the drawings, the
numeral 1l designates said supporting frames Patented sept. a, 191s. y
mounted on beams 2 which may or may not l be provided, as found desirable, with supporting rollers or wheels 3. Each of the frames 1 is provided with a vertical arm 4 for the purpose as will appear.
J ournaled in the upper ends of the frames 1 are pins 5, secured to the ends of which are disks 6 provided with a plurality-of holes 7 in their sides. The engine supporting frame is secured to said disks 6 in thev following manner: The side-.frames 8 ofsaid engine supporting frame are provided with vertical slots 9 4projecting through which are bolts 10 having nuts 11 by means of whi'chbolts and nuts, the said members 8 are secured to the disks 6. The bolts 10 are slidable through the slots 9, whereby by means of the bolts 10 and nuts 11. The
members 8 are braced together by means of angle iron cross bars 14 which are rigidly secured to the members 8 in any desired manner.
The lower ends of the members 8 are-pron vided with slotted guides 15 in which are 'slidable bolts 16, which bolts 16 project upwardly between two cross beams 17 spaced apart on each side of said `bolts' 16 and adapted to be connected by cross bolts 18. These members 17 as will be readily seen, are adjustable along the lower edges of the members Sand are adapted to receive the engine or motor, which engine or motor would be connected to said beams by means Vof bolts projected through the lugs of said engine and motor and between said member 17 and be secured thereto by means of nuts mounted on said bolts. Any desired xed position of the members 17 on the members 8 is obtained by tightening nuts 19 in the upper end of the 4bolts 16.
In practice the engine or motor would be secured to the members 17 in the manner set forth and then the members 8 would be ad-` said engine or motor to be perfectly balanced l on the pivotal points 5 which would then permit such engine or motor to be readily turned in any direction without a great deal of efort, whereby all parts of the engine or motor could be easily reached for any purpose desired. Any xed position of t-he engine or motor could be held by means of pins 2'0 projecting 'through the arms 4 and engaging, the holes 7.
While We have shown and described the device as having the adjustable features of the underslung engine frame, still if desired such engine frame without any adjustment I could be pivotally swung on the members l andbe used in that manner with the same effect, therebeing means of course of fixing it indesired position in its rotation.
' 'From the foregoing description it will be readily .seen that we have 'produced Suche device as substantially fulfils the objects oit' the invention as set forth herein.
While this s eciic'ation sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from suohdetail may be resorted toas do lnot form a departure from the scope of the claims,
.Having thus described our invention what we claim' as new and useful and desire lto secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character described comprising the combination of a supporting traine, a pair of disks pivotally mountedy on 'pivotally pivot-ally mounted on said frame in spaced relation, bolts disposed in said disks and provided with nuts,-independent frame members provided with slots mounted over said bolt-s, and supporting beams disposed in said independent frame members, as described.
3. A device of the character described comprising a supporting frame, a pair of disks mounted on said frame spaced relation, independent frame members mounted between said disks and being capable of sliding adjustment thereon, projecting arms on said disks, set screws disposed in said arms and engaging said independent frame members and supporting beams mounted on said independent frame mem-- bers, as described.
In testimony whereof we afiix .our signa tures in presence of two witnesses.
