Specification of LcttersgPatent. Patented Sept. 9, 1913.,
Application fi-ted December 21, 191a se raiuo. tea-e59. i
cisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in, Display-Stands, of which the followingisa specification.
This invent-1011 relates to display such as are used in stores for exhibiting to advantage articles of merchandise. I.
The objects of the invention are to provide a stand of this nature which shall be ornamental in appearance, efficient and con venient in use, and cheap to construct.
The invention further seeks to provide a display stand which can be readily packed into small compass for shipment or storage.
lVith the above objects in view the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and illustrated in-the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved display stand as it appears when in use. Fig. 2 is a view of the device showing the parts separated and folded to facilitate packing. Fig. 3 is a detailed view of one of the clips which I preferably employ to hold the articles to be displayed, and Fig. 4: is a perspective view of another form of article supporting bracket which I- may employ.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 designates a suitable base into which is set a standard 2. main frame of the device, which, in the embodiment shown in the drawing, consists of a circular hoop 3. The ends of this hoop are set into a socket 1, into which also the upper end of the standard 2 is screwed, such standard being provided with threads 2, as shown in Fig.2. Also supported. by the socket 4, and extending radially to approximately the center of the hoop 3 is a post or arm 5. Other arms, such as indicated at 6, 7 and 8, may also be attached to the hoop 3 at any desired point thereof, and extend radiallyoutward therefrom, such arms being shown in Fig. 1 as located 90 degrees apart. Each of these arms is attached to the hoop 3 by means of a half round loop or clamp 9, secured to the arm and provided with a set screw 10 adapted to engage the frame. It will be seen, therefore, that by loosening these set screws the corresponding arms may be adjusted to any desired position. It will Y ment.
= nature of such articles.
This standard supports the be particirilarlynoted that suclr arms ;may all be turned inward, as shown; in Fig. 2, so
as to lie entirely. withinthe circular frame 3 :to facilitate packing; the device fer:.-ship Also as illustrated in Fig. 2 the frame oan be detached, .from the standard and lbase. I This renders the device very compact. and capable of. being, stored ina comparatively small space.
Various means of supporting on the arms 5, 6, 7 an'd"8, the articles'to be displayed maybe employed, in'accordance with the Where pointed articles, such as cutlery, are to bedisplayed, the articles may be stuck into blocks of soft material, such as cork, as indicated at 13, and these blocks provided with openings adapted to be slipped over the arms. In Fig. 1 a knife 14 is illustrated as being supported in this manner.
When it is desired to display other articles (they may be supported by means of hooks 12, carried by a bracket 11 supported at the end of anarm such as 6, as illustrated in Fig. 4. Other methods of supporting the articles to be displayed may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In addition to the supporting arms above described, I may, and preferably do, pro- Vide means for supporting a number of articles directly upon the frame 3 itself, at points between the arms.- provide spring clips 15 which may be readily attached to and detached from, the frame 3, and which may be secured thereto at any desired point. In Fig. 3 I have illustrated in detail one method in which such ,clips can be constructed. Each clip comprises a fixed arm 16 and a movable arm 17 pivoted at .18 and preferably provided with a thumb piece 19 by means of which it may be manipulated. A spring 20 is provided which normally-urges the arm 17 toward the position-shown in the drawing. The clip above described is provided with a half round loop or clamp 21 adapted to encircle the frame 3, and carrying a set screw 22 by means of which it may be clamped in position. In Fig. 1 I have illustrated a pair of scissors 23 as supported upon the frame by such a clip.
It will thus be seen that the essential feature of the invention, broadly considered, is the provision of a circular or other closed frame, supported in a vertical plane, and
To this end I detachably secured to thetop of saidstandard and disposedin a vertical plane, a supporting arm extending upwardly from said standard and in line therewith, and lying in the plane of the hoop, said arm beingadaptf ed to support articles, inside the hoop, and aplurality'of arms carried by said hoop and Copies of this patent may be obtained for adjustable circumferentially thereon, said arms when in operative position extending 15 radially outward from said hoop but being rotatably mounted thereon, whereby they may be turned so as to extend radially inward.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my 20 signature, in presence of two witnesses.
