MEANS FOR REMOVING YARN RESIDUES FROM BOBBINS, SPOOLS, AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom 2'75 may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL JEANMAHIE, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Kollnau, Baden, in Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Removing Yarn Residues :trom Bobbins, Spools, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
In connection with mechanical weaving, more particularly with automatic looms, considerable di'lliculty is involved in the removal of yarn residues from the bobbins, spools and the like, it such removal is to be effected without damaging the paper or wood.
The object of the present invention is to provide an appliance for obviating this ditficulty. To this end I use a tubular device adapted to embrace the spool or bobbin and to be connected to an air pump or equivalent suction device, whereby the yarn residues are sucked oil through the annular space within the tube, the latter having an enlargement at its base and a constriction at or near the part surrounding the top of the spool or bobbin.
The invention is illustrated in the ac ompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the appliance on the bobbin, and Fig. 2 a bottom plan view of the appliance.
The appliance comprises a tube T having what may be called a suction head a at its base, that is to say an enlarged part shaped to form a cavity 5 around the base of the bobbin It, at the part where the bulge of the yarn occurs, when the yarn residue is drawn off the bobbin by a stream of air passing through the tube as indicated by the arrows. If this enlargement were not pro vided, the yarn, bulging out at the base under the action of the air current would obstruct the passage of the air and prevent ellicient action of the appliance. The tube is contracted at c, at the part where the yarn passes oil the bobbin It, so that at this part there is an acceleration of the air current, whereby obstruction of the yarn at the top of the bobbin, in course of winding oil, is prevented. The contraction is effected by inserting into the tube a cylindrical piece 0,
the bore oil which is flared in the downward direction, so as to atlord a tapering passage at thetop oi. the bobbin. The part a has an inwardly directed rim 1], adapted to abut against the bobbin or spindle, and having channels f for the passage of the air. The suction head can thus be firmly seated on the shoulder of the bobbin, without obstruct ing the passage of the air.
\Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 2- 1. An appliance for the purpose set forth, comprising a hollow casing adapted to be connected to a suction device and to be placed with clearance around a bobbin or the like, said casing having an enlargement at its lower end and a constriction at its upper end into which the tip of the bobbin or the like may enter.
2. An appliance for the purpose set forth, con'iprising a tubular easing adapted to be connected to a suction device and to be placed with clearance around a bobbin or the like, said casing having an enlargement at its lower end provided with an inturned rim to bear on the foot of the bobbin and spaces in said rim for the entrance of air, and a constriction at its upper end into which the tip of the bobbin or the like may enter.
3. An appliance for the purpose set :lorth comprising a tubular casing adapted to be connected at one end to a suction device and having an enlargement; on its other end formed with an axial opening for the insertion of a bobbin or the like, said opening having an inturned rim to hear on the toot of the bobbin through which rim are formed channels for the admission of air, and :1 cylindrical piece at its suction end provided with a central bore flared in the direction toward said enlargement through which flared portion the tip of said bobbin may enter.
