Be it known that I, EUGENE LANGLEY, a
of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in' Bilge-Water Dischargers, of which the following is. a spec1-- fication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. 7
This invention relates to navigation and matically discharging the bilge Water from a boat? c g The" invention more particularly has reference to a device which automatically operates, when the boat is under Way, as a succharge will be automatically closed.
The principal object of theinvention is to improve and simplify the general construction of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is the production of a device which may be used in small boats with a portable suction nozditferent ribs may be thoroughly emptied. With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in general of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the 8.0COHIP3'. nyiug drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 shows a ship equipped with a series of these devices, there being one for each of the water tight compartments. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail a device constructed in accordance with this of the automatic valve mechanism of such a device. Fig. 4 is a section on line H of- Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section on line 55 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is an enlarged section on line 6-6 of Fig. 2. Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail view of the stop plate. In the operation of the device, if the globe v; lve be open and the vessel under speed, suction will be created by the rush of the Water past the wider end of the delivery nozzle and this will cause suction in the pipe 18 and consequently suction in the intake or suctionnozzle 12.- Now, if there be any water in the bilge, the water will be sucked ipast the ball valve and out of the-bilge. I for any reason the pressure of the water on suction, the ball valve will rise and close the nozzle 26 thus preventing the inflow of water. As this operates automatically no danger of flooding the compartment or the hull of the vessel is experienced. In case of a collision opening the hull ofthe vessel such as is shown-in Fig. 1, the device will operate automatically to clear the compartment of water as long as steam. There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device ofthe kind described, and for; the purpose specified.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In a device of the kind described, a check valve consisting of a cylindrical casing having a bushing at each end, rings within said" casing caring against said bushing, a nozzle carried by the upper ring, pairs of rods connectingsaid rings, a stop plate fixedly mounted on two of said rods, and a ball valve normally resting on the stop plate.
