PLASTERING-TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1913.
Application filed May 5, 1913. Serial No. 765,437.
To all 1.0 it one it may concern Be it known that I, WVILFRn) LABELLE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 1710 Cadieux street, in the city of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plastering-Tools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to certain improvements in plastering tools, and consists of the construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In order to more clearly disclose the construction, operation, and use of the invention, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the present application.
Throughout the several figures of the drawings like reference characters designate the same parts.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view of the back of my plastering tool; Fi 2 is a front edge view of the same; Fig. 3 is a top perspective view; and Fig. 1 is a view of two sections of wall plates showing the different stages of the work done with my plastering tool.
Referring to the drawings in detail: The numeral 1 designates the blade of the tool, 2 designates the tapering grooves which extend about half way across the face of the blade 1 leaving a smooth portion 3. The said grooves 2 are somewhat deeper than their greatest width as shown in Fig. 2, and taper from the front edge of the tool to a point at the approximate longitudinal center of the blade as shown in Fig. 3.
The numeral 1 designates the ribs separating the grooves 2. The blade 1 is provided with the usual straight round handles 5, connected thereto by bolts 6, with their inner ends 7 countersunk and flush with the inner surface of the blade 1. A rib 8 slanting from its center toward both ends extends nearly the length of the back of the blade being integral therewith and bracing the same.
In Fig. 1 the numeral 9 designates a wall plate having a rough portion 10 and a smooth portion 11. 12 is another late after treatment with the grooving portion of the tool showing the grooves 13 and rounded ridges 14.
The operation is as follows: The tool is grasped by the handles 5 and the smooth portion 3 of its inner face drawn over the roughened surface 10 of the plate 9 thus smoothing the surface as at 11 (Fig. 4:). Then the grooved portion of the tool is drawn over this smoothed portion the ribs 41 pressing into the material and grooving it in parallel grooves as at 13, the material displaced thereby enters the grooves 2 of the blade 1 and is formed by them into the rounded ridges 14 (Fig. 1). This tool is used to groove and corrugatc any of the ordinary building materials which are ordinarily grooved and corrugated by other means. The wall plate shown to demonstrate the use of the tool is shown as being grooved and corrugated vertically, but the inventor does not limit himself to this one use, as it is quite evident that the grooves and corrugations may run in any direction demanded by conditions of the work being done, or may even be criss-crossed if desired or necessary.
It is thought that the ope 'ation and use of the invention will be clear from the preceding detailed description.
Changes may be made in the construction, arrangement, and disposition of the several parts of the invention without in any way departing from the field and scope of the same, and it is meant to include all such within this application wherein only a preferred form has been disclosed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described, a flat rectangular blade provided with a plurality of tapering grooves extending and tapering from the outer edge of said blade to its proximate longitudinal center, and a smooth portion.
2. In a device of the character described, a flat rectangular blade provided with a plurality of tapering grooves extending and tapering from the outer edge thereof to the proximate longitudinal center thereof, a
smooth portion extending from the ends of said grooves to the edge of the said blade, handles secured to sald blades by bolts hav ing their inner ends countersunk and level In Witness whereof I have hereunto set with the fees of said blade, and a; raised rib my hand in the presenee of twfo' Witnesses. slanting from its center toward its ends elg- WILFRID LABELLE. tending lengthwise of the back of the blade, Witnesses:
