To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES F. S'rREcKEa, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marietta, Washington county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BridleCrowns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in bridle crowns.

Heretofore in constructing bridle crowns separate loops have been used for the overcheck and winker stay and the holes to receive the same in the crown layer have been punched separately. In such constructions it is necessary that each loop be sewed or otherwise fastened separately between the crown layer and fold necessitating a waste of considerable time as well as making the crowns quite expensive to construct. F urthermore where separate loops are used the construction is comparatively weak and inasmuch as the holes are punched separately they are often placed irregularly detracting from the appearance of the crown and sometimes causing the crowns to fit improperly.

It is an ob ect of this invention to provide rigidly connected or one piece winker and overcheck loops constructed of suitable material, adapted to be secured in position in one operation and which do not necessitate sewing in place.

It is further an object of this invention to provide overcheck loops constructed integrally or of one or more pieces of material adapted for use with three and five buckle overchecks for blind or open bridles.

It is a further and important object of this invention to provide overcheck loops constructed of leather or any preferred material which are especially adapted for five buckle overchecks and which only necessitate unbuckling the check and inserting the straps through the loops in assembling.

It is also an important object of this invention to provide overcheck loops pa ticu larly adapted for three buckle overchecks which are constructed of suitable material such as metal and are notched or open at the top to have the straps inserted therethrough.

It is a further object of this invention to provide a crown layer in which the holes to receive the loops are punched simultaneously insuring exactness and economizing in labor and in which the crown fold is made in a mold or shaper to eliminate lacing and shaping by hand.

It is finally an object of this invention to construct a durable, strong and neat bridle crown which is simple in construction and perfect fitting.

The invention relates to matters hereinafter described and more fully pointed out and defined in the appended claim.

On the drawings: Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section of a bridle crown provided with winker stay and overcheck loops made of one piece of material for a five buckle overcheck. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the crown layer punched to receive the loops. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the crown fold. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a bridle crown provided with overcheck loops for open bridles. Fig. 6 is a section on line 6-6 of Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a side elevation of overcheck loops for a five buckle overcheck for open bridles. Fig. 8 is a side elevation of overcheck and winker stay loops for a three buckle overcheck for open or blind bridles. Fig. 9 is a side elevation of the overcheck loop used in Fig. 5.

As shown on said drawings: A indicates the crown layer provided with perforations aa-a which are punched in one operation insuring perfect alinement thereof. The ends of said crown layer as shown more clearly in Fig. 2 are slotted to form straps d-d for the throat strap and side straps of the bridle.

The construction in Fig. 5 is more adapted to a three buckle overcheck for open bridles in which, of course, the winker stays are omittedand th-e straps loops. In a construction such as shown all the loops are simultaneously secured in position thus saving a considerable amount of labor over the old method of placing each loop separately in position and-sewing each loop in place, and affords a much stronger and neater construction. If desired three leather or metallic loops such as shown in Fig. 8 may be employed adapted for a three or five buckle overcheck for blind or open bridles in which F ---F 2 are the overcheck loops and F the winker stay loop. In constructing a bridle crown for a five buckle overc-heck for open bridles the loops G G may be constructed as shown in Fig.

Many other shapes and kinds of loops may bo -employed and it is obvious that three or j five buckle overchecks may be used with any style of loops shown and many other details of construction may be varied without departing from the principles of this invention.
