Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 26,1913.
Application filed May 15, 1913.=" Seriai No. 767,871.
T all whom 52- moy (once-1m:
Be it known that I, ILLIAM GEORGE Slum-1n, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Etna, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improve-' ments in Fountain-Brushes, of which the following is a. specification, referencebeing had therein to the accompanying drawing. This invention relates to fountain brushes, and the primary ob ject of my invention is to furnish a brush with a detachable reservoir or container having positive and reliable means, hereinafter setforth, for
feeding a detergent, as liquid soap, to the' bristles of a/brush, whereby the brush can be expeditiously used for cleansing a surrace.
A further object of this invention is toprovide a scrub brush with a simple, durable and inexpensive reservoir attachment that can be easily and quickly connected to a brush whereby a cleansing material can be supplied to another part of the brush.
With the above and otherobjects in View the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and 4'0 brush body proiiided with bristles 2 and at' .the ends of said body are vertical openings 3;, ppper' ends of the openings 5' are efilargedito provide seats 4; the purpose of ch-wil-l' presentlyappear.
P i Th'e rezterence numeral 5 denotes "a rectanl l. gul'ar reservoir or container that has the ttom thereof-provided withfa tubular boss 'a'xtendinto the opening 3 and rest 11 finestthereof. One" side of :{iothe res-whens" depending gripping arms that the structural elements are susceptible 7 to engage under the body 1 of the brush. The opposite side of the reservoir has an outwardly extending'and depending bracket I 8 provided with a set screw 9 having a clamping'head 10 adapted to engage the body 1 of the brush and'lock the reservoir thereon. Connected to'the upper edge of the reservoir by a hinge 11 isa lid or cover 12 provided with a hinged hasp 13 adapted to engage .the reservoir 5 whereby the lid or cover 12 can be securedin a closed position. The lid or cover' 12 permits of soft soap or a suitable detergent'being placed within the reservoir. 18. follower 14 is placed in the reservoir upon the detergent g and the lid or cover 12 is provided with T. set screw 15 adapted to engage said follower, whereby the follower can be lowered to force a quantity of the contents of the res er'voir through the opening 3 and ontothe bristles-of the brush. v With the device capable of fitting upon either end of a scrub brush it is apparent that the brush can be evenly worn and con-- tin'iously used. I i
it is preferable to make the device of non-corrodible metal and while in the draw-. ing there is illustrated a preferred embodimeat of the invention, it is to be understood.
to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.-
-What Lclaim is .f v v 1. A brush having a body provided with openings, a reservoir clampedmpon thebody' of said brush and having the bottom thereof provided with a tubular boss adapted toextend into one of the openings of said body, a hinged lid carried by said reservoir,-;a.follower within said reservpir, and means car'-- go ried by said lid for engaging said follower j to ,Eorce the contents of said reservoir. through the boss thereof and the opening of said brush body.
2. A brush having a body provided with openings, areservoir clamped upon'the body of sa id brush andhaving the bottom thereof provided with a tubular boss adapted to extend into one of the openings of said bod 5 hinged lid carried by said reservoir, 21 f0 lower wit-hi1; aid resem oir, means carried In testimony whereof Iaflix my signature by Sui?) lid for engaging; said follogver tlo in the presence of two witnesses. force t 6 contents of sai reservoir t roug1 i i i the boss thereof and the opening of saiG WIPLIAM GEORGE SEILLL' 5 brush body, and means including a clamp- Witnesses: ing screw for securing said reservoir to said MAX H.
