IMPRovED TRACE-Hoor: AND CLIP PoR HARNESS,
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same'.-
To all whom it may concern:
B'e it known that I, WILLIAM H. MORGAN, of' Alliance, in the county ot' Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Haine-Clip; and 1 do hereby declare that the t'ollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ref'- erence heilig had tothe accompanying drawing and t0 letters ot reference marked thereon.
The nature oi' my invention consists in a new article of manufacture, viz., it haine-clip, constructed as hereinafter described.
` To enable others skilled iu the art to marie and use my newl article of lnamlticture, I will proceed to de-` scribe more fully its construction.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of my specification- Figure l is a sido view ot' my new article of |"nanu facture, representing the dorctail portion ot' the clip orhook, broken away for the purpose of showing the dovetail recess for the dovetail of the clip orhook.

1) represents a shield or guard, which is used for protecting the end and a portion of the edge ot' the harness-trace.
x are braces for- Ythe shield or guard D.
The. tongue c ot'the haine-clip is provided with projections h, which answer the purpose of rivets.
f and g are openings which are used torA the purpose of' allowing the llame-clip to he sewed iu betweenthe two strips of leather which forms the haine or harnesstrace.
. The projections or rivets h are also used for securing the haine-clip in and to the haine or harness-trace,
by the riveting process, which is well understood hy harness-makers.
The hereinbef'ore described haine-clip is cast otlmalleable iron, (cast-iron annealed,) and itinay bev enameled, t-inued, or plated, for the purpose of giving it a tine liuish. 4
When the llame-clip is used for a trace-hook, it is iu the form shown in figs. 2 and 3; but when it is f used as a haine clip, the hook is hooked inthe ring or link on the haines, and the dovetail B is forced 4withl .and advantages of my new article of manufacture,
What I claim as otl my invention is v lhe haine-clip, consisting of hook A, provided with a dovetail, B, recess G, shield D, tongue e, openings fand g, the whole being constructed and arranged as herein described, and-for the purpose set forth. 'I W. H. bMORGAN.
