To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CONSTANT T. GUN bane, a citizen of the United Stetes and resident of Stonington in. the county of New London and State of Cminecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plate-Registering Devices 1" Hate-Cylinders of Printing-Presses, 0t WJich the tol lowing is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a device which can be readiiy attached to and detached from the plate cylinder and in which the registering pointer or pointers may be readily brought to the desired registry position and secured in such position.
A practical embodiment; of my invention is represented in the accompanying draw ings, in Which Figure 1 represents the device temporar ily mounted upon a, plate cylinder, interme diate portions of the cylinder and cross bar being broken away so that both ends of the cylinder and deviceinay be illustrated on a proper scale, Fig. is a detail section taken in the plane of the line A A. of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a detail section taken in the plane of the line ll-l3 of Fig. 1 Fig. d is a detail section taken in the plane of the line C-C of Fig. 2, Fig.5 is an enlarged detail View in side elevation of a portion of the cross bar showing one pair of concting trainmels, and Fig. 6 is a cross section taken in the plane of the line D-J) of Fig. 5, the pointer be ing shown in its depressed position in dotted lines.
The plate cylinder is denoted by 1, the hearers at its ends by 2, and the plate cylinder gears by 3. The plates on the cylinder are denoted by l. The plate registering device comprises a cross bar 5 having its cylindrical ends (5 mounted in lugs 7, uprising from the outer inen'ibers 8 of the end supports, the inner members of said supports being?) denoted by 9. S" cessive notches 19. After the trammel 18 has been adjusted to the proper position, it may be clamped in such position by the set screw 24.. A vertically arranged bushing 25 is rotatably mounted in the trammel 18, said bushing being provided with a head 26 for facilitating the rotative adjustment of said bushing.
The pointer 16 extends eccentrically through the bushing 25 and the said bushing is provided with an eccentric recess 27 in Which is located a spring 28 interposed be tween the bottom of the recess and a collar 29 on the pointer 16 for normally holding the pointer raised away from the plate 4 on the cylinder 1. This pointer may be pro vided With a collar 80 forming a stop-to limit the upward movement of the pointer. This pointer may also be provided at its upper end With a handle 31 for ready use by the operator When desired to depress the pointer into engagement With the plate for registering purposes.
A clamp screw 32 extends through split portions 33, 84:, of the trammel 18 for securing the bushing in its different rotative adjustments,
From the above description it Will be seen that the .pointer 16 may be adjusted circumferentially along the cylinder by the adjustment of the outer members 8 of the end supports for the cross bar 5. It will also be seen that the pointer may also be rapidly brought into an approximate position by the movement of the trammels along the cross bar 5 and then adjusted to the utmost nicety along the said bar after one trammel has been locked to thebar. After this longitudinal adjustment has been completed, the trammel which carries the pointer may then be clamped to the bar.
The pointer may also be readily adjusted in a circular path about its longitudinal axis by turning the bushing 25 and a ready means is provided for constantly testing the position of the pointer by depressing the same Without releasing any of the parts. After the pointer has been brought to the proper position, the bushing 25 may then be secured in such position.
It is evident that slight changes might be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence I do notavish to limit myself strictly to the structure herein set forth,

What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, a cross bar, means for temporarily mounting it in a fixed position on the plate cylinder, a pointer and means for adjusting the pointer along the bar.

5. In a device of the character described, a cross bar, means for temporarily mount ing it in a fixed position on the plate cylinder, a pointer and means for adjusting the pointer to diflerent positions in a circular path about its longitudinal axis.

In a device of the character described, a cross bar, means for temporarily mounting it in a fixed position on the plate cylinder, a depressible pointer, means for automatically returning the pointer to its raised position and, means for adjusting the pointer 'to diflerent positions in a circular path about its longitudinal axis.
