APPARATUS FOR HONING THE BLADES OF RAZORS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLEMENT GASTON Manner-ran, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at No. 83 Boulevard de la Villette, Paris, Seine, France, have invented certain new and useful Apparatus for Honing the Blades of Razors, of which the following is a full, clear and exact description.
This apparatus presents three characteristics, viz: First, it permits of presenting the blade to the leather under a constant inclination; second, of applying the blade to the leather with a constant pressure: third of honing the blade in an equal manner throughout its breadth. These character istics are obtained with the following arrangcment: The movement of the leather with relation to the blade is secured by a rotary movement. This rotary movement is obtained by the mobility of the leather which is fixed on the periphery of a cylinder of wood turning around a vertical shaft or axis, supported on a base B. Constant inclination is assured because the distance of the blade from the leather remains con-- stant during the entire continuance of the movement, and constant pressure is assured by the action of a spring, R.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention, in which Figure 1, is a plan view of the honing wheel, and Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3, is a side elevation of the blade holding clamps and adjacent parts. Fig. 4;, is an edge View of the clamp, shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the assembled parts shown in Figs. 2 and 3, but with the rotatable parts turned in the opposite direction. Fig. 6, is a plan view showing the parts operatively combined; and Fig. 7, is a detailed side elevation, partly in section, of a portion of the device.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 12,1913.
2, 1912. Serial No. 734,579.
The various parts of the apparatus are referred to by letters, similar letters denoting corresponding parts in the several views.
The letter C, designates the leather 011 the honing wheel 0. The body of this wheel C, is preferably made of wood, and the leather C, is secured upon its periphery in any preferred manner. At A, is a depres sion intended to receive the extremity of the finger which transmits motion.
Figs. 3 and 4-, illustrate the means for supporting the razor blade L, in its blade carrier P, which allows it complete mobility around the axis of the horizontal shank, H, of said carrier. This shank H, is horizontally pivoted in a standard V, which is vertically pivoted on the base B. Thus the blade can be honed on both the faces of its edge. Around the standard V, is wound the spring R, the action of which assures the desired pressure of the blade on the leather. The entire mechanism rests on the tray, or base, B, as shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7.
Having now described the invention, and the manner of operating it, what I claim and desire to secure is,-
Apparatus for honing razors comprising a base, a vertical shaft thereon, a honing wheel on said shaft, a vertical standard pivoted on said base, a razor blade clamp having a shank horizontally pivoted in the standard, and a spring on the standard tending to turn the clamp toward the honing wheel.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
EUGENE DE BoNcIi, HANSON C. Coxn.
