Leters PatentNo.-106,927, dated August 30, 1870.
APPARATUS FOR SATURATING- PELLIES WITH OIL.
The Shedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all wh-om it may concern Be it known that I, J osHUA R. FAUs, of Espy, in the county-of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a-new and valuable Improvement in Means for Oiling Fellies; and I do -hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction'and operation of the same, ret'erence being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a front view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a top view lof the same.
Figure 3 is a vertical cross-section.
My invention has relation to means for facilitating the oil'ing of felli'es, and consists in the construction of a vessel in the form of an are of a circle, designed to contain the fellies und oil, and arranged in such a manner that a fire may be readily built thereunder.
The letter A of the' drawing represents the body of the vessel, which isa trough iin the 'form ot' an are of a circle. As illust-rated in the drawing, the trough is semicircular. This is regarded as the most useful size, as fellies are seldom made longer.
B B represent legsntt-ached to the trough, usually at three points. They serve to keep it from the ground, in order that a tire may be. built underneath when required.
O G designate the sectional covers, made similar to eachother in shape and size, in order that they may lbe intel-changed;
Handles d d are attached'thereto.
c represents the waste-cock, through which the oil is drawn o' after use.
The trough is made w-ide enough to permit two fellies to lie therein side by side; and deep enough for several such layers. Thus thefellies of the front and hind wheels may be subjected to the oiling process at the same time.
The process of oiling fellies is of great benefit, hardening them, and rendering them impervious to water.v Therefore the wheels will not shrinlgand the tires will not become loosened.
In order to keep the cove-rs C O imposition, the cleats or lugs 'z z are formed on the under sides thereof'. 'lhey are, therefore, easily adjusted in place, and withoutdelay.
\Vhat claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A circular metal trough, having the sectional covers G Gand 'the legs B as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my namein the presence of two witnesses.
XVitnesses:
F. CooLEY, T. B. MILLER.
