IMPROVEMENT IN TRACK-LIFTER.
The Schedule referred t'o in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it 'ina-3j concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH M. BA'rQHELon, of Foxcroft, in the county of' Piscataquis, inlthe State of Maine, have invented a new anduseful Machine for the pui-'pose of Raising Railroad-Track, and called a lrack-Lifter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure' 1 is a perspective view ot' the machine in operation;

Thel machine operates substantially as follows:
l` lace the adjustable bar A'between and with its toothed side close to one of the rails; pass the lever B down over the' bar A, (having the friction-pawl C turned back upon the leven) until the grapple F clutches the rail; then raise the lever B`till the fnlpawl C will, by being thrown'forward, hold-the mil at anypoint between the teeth.
The machine complete weighs about forty pounds, and with it one man can do the labor which has beretofbrecrequired from two to live men to perform.
The lifter never throws the track out of line. pry always does.

The arrangement of th'e lever B, rods E E, grapple F, and the iiict-ion-brake or pawl C, or their equivalents, in connection with the self-adjusting oscillating ratchet-fulcrnm and bearer-bar A, or its equivalent, operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
