MAY R. D. COMINE, F "VINELAIND, NEW JERSEY.
ADJUSTABLE TOILET-SEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jnlr 22., 1913.
Application filed May 13, 1913. Serial No. 767,:
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAY R. D. CoMrNs,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Vineland, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjust-able-Toilet-Seats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in adjustable toilet seats for children, and the object of my invention is to furnish such a seat which can be rolled into a small bundle for transportation, which can be washed when necessary, andwhich can be easily and rapidly adjusted for main connection with water closet seats 01'' vessels of widely varying dimensions.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification and in which t,
Figure 1, is a plan of my improved seat, and Fig. 2, a section of Fig. 1 on line X-X.
The-seat 1 is made of some suitable material, as canvas, rubber cloth, &c., which is strong and which can be rolled. It is preferably, but not necessarily, of double'thickness, as indicated at 23, and its edges are preferably bound With tape or other suit able material, as at 4-5, which is well stitched to give strength at this part of the structure. In one direction the seat is reinforced with rods 6-7, carried in pockets the outer ends of which carry hooks 10 which are adapted to hook over the outer edges of an ordinary water closet seat or over the edges of a vessel which may be used for toilet purposes. By means of the buckles the straps, after the hooks are engaged, may be pulled and held tight to stretch my seat to prevent it from sagging or being displaced by any movement of a child usinp, it.
My adjustable seat is exceedingly useful in traveling, it prevents the person using it from coming in direct contact with toilet seats in public places, it is comfortable and can be rolled into a bundle of Very small diameter which can be conveniently carried in a hand bag.
The device is as useful in the home as it is for traveling for it dispenses with and is more comfortable and useful than the ordinary nursery chair. I
Having thus described my invention 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. As a new article of manufacture, an adjustable toilet seat consisting of a body of flexible material furnished with an interior,
opening and reinforced in one direction,
upon opposite sides ofsaid opening and between sa1d opening and the sides of the seat, w1th rods, and being furnished w1th adustable means for securing 1t to a seat or teriorly perforated, the outer and inner sides of Which are bound and stitched, two reinforcing rods carried by the fabric, one on each side of said perforation and between said perforation and the side of the seat, buckles secured to the seat, straps adjustably carriedby said buckles, and hooks carried by said straps, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
MAY R. D. COMINS.
