'[lNllTED @TATE@ PATENT FFTCE ROBERT B. FERGUSON, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
BoUToNNIRE-HOLDER.
To all wlwm it may Gomera Be it known that I, ROBERT B. FERGUSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, and State of California, have invented new and useful Tmprovements in Processes niere-Holders, of which the following' is a specification.
My invention relates to a device which can be quickly secured to the lapel of a Coat, which will receive and retain the stein of a boutonniere which is passed through the buttonhole in the lapel by the resiliency of its parts; and the object thereof is to provide a simple and eflicient holder for a. boutonniere which will hold and not injure the stem of the most delicate fiower that can be used for a boutonniere, thereby retaining it on the lapel of the coat. accomplish this object by the holder described herein and illustrated in the aocompanying` drawings, in which Figure 1. is a perspective view of my improved boutonniere holder. Fig. 2. is an edge view of a fragment of the lapel of a coat with my improved holder in place thereon with the stem of a flower therein.
My improved boutonniere holder is formed of resilient wire which is coiled in the center into two convolutions to form the head 5. A portion of one end of the wire is straight and is sharpened and forms a pin 6 which pierces the lapel. 7. The other end of the wire terminat-es in a hook or keeper 8, into which hook the end of the pin is received and retained as shown. For a short distance above the hook the wire is straight to give suflicient resilienoy to the convolutions of the head to receive and retain the stem 9 of the flower or flowers that form the boutonnire.
The pin and keeper form the body of the holder. The holder may be formed of gold plated Wire and can be used on either side of specification of Letters Patent.

the lapel as its configuration is ornamental and it will hold the boutonniere equally well on either side of the lapel. It will be observed that the straight portion of the wire which terminates in the hook starts away from the head at the point where two complete convolutions terminate, and that the wire that forms the pin passes a little farther in its circular course and then turns sharply and eXtends to near the 'center of the convolution and then turns sharply on a radial line that bring's it directly over the straight portion of the other end and beyond the hook where it is sharpened to form the pin member. In passing' first to near the center of the coil and then across and beyond the coil, the last turn in the wire forms a stop which prevents the pin from entering' the n'arment too far.
Having desoribed my invention what I claim is:
As a new article of manufacture a bouquet holder consisting` of a single piece of resilient wire having' its center bent into two parallel convolutions of equal radii, one of the ends of said wire projeoting away from the convolutions on a radial line of the convolutions from the point where two complete convolutions are formed and terminating in a hook, and the other end eXtending circularly a short distance from the point where the hook member projects from the convolutions and then passing toward the center of the convolutions and then on a radial line which brings it over and beyond the hook member and terminating` in a sharpened end forming` a pin.
In witness that T claim the foreg'oing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 12th, day of December, 1911.

It is hereby oertified that in Letters Patent No. 1,067,97 9, granted July 22, 1918,
upon the application of Robert B. Ferguson, Los Angeles, California, for an improvenient in Boutonnire-Holders, an error appears in the prnted speoifioation requiring oorrection as follows: Page 1, lines 6-7 title of invention, for Processes niem-Holdem read Boutonnreflolders; and that the said Letters Patent should be read With this eorrection therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Oflioe.
Signed and sealed this nd day of September, A. D., 1913.
