To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES M. THOMP' soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yellow Pine, in the parish of \Vebster and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a cabinet adapted to contain rolls of oilcloth or some such fabric and which is constructed so as to display the difierent rolls of material and to permit any length of material being readily severed from its roll in the vending of the same.

The invention has for its object the provision of a rotatable cabinet having opposed open sides and roll holders located within the cabinet adjacent the open sides so as to maintain the rolls of cloth in positions convenient for the handling of the same and where different rolls may be displayed to the view.

A further object of the invention is to provide holders for the storing of additional rolls of cloth.

A still further object is to provide means by which severing or cutting off of the cloth may be accomplished at the outer edge of each roll holder, thus obviating the necessity of reeling the cloth which has been unnecessarily unwound from the roll back onto the roll after a piece has been cut off.

A further object is the provision of a tally card located on the side of the cabinet adjacent one end of each roll holder so that the amount of cloth unwound from each particular roll may be recorded so that the dealer may at all times know just how much material he has on hand within each holder.

An additional object of the invention is the provision of roller arms located above each roll holder and adapted to facilitate the unwinding of the cloth and to prevent the roll from being drawn out of its holder when it becomes small in size and thus very light in weight.

The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

In the drawings, 1 designates the supporting base which is centrally provided on its upper surface with a circular bearing plate 2. A pivot pin 3 extends upwardly through the center of the bearing plate 2 and is adapted to be received by the opening 4 in a bearing shell 5 which is located centrally in the base 6 of the cabinet proper. A circular, apertured bearing plate 7 is secured to the base of the cabinet surrounding the shell 5 and is adapted to bear against the plate 2 provided on the upper surface of the supporting base when the cabinet is in its rotatable position upon the said base. The side walls 8 and 9 of the cabinet have their upper edges inclined both ways from the centers thereof, as at 10 and 11, and are centrally connected by a ridge piece 12. Roof members 13 and 14 are hinged to each side of the ridge piece 12 and are adapted'to overlie the inclined upper edges of the side walls so as to effectively covert-he cabinet. A superimposed row of supporting plates 15 are secured to the inner-faces of each side wall of the cabinet, and are disposed in spaced relation to each other. Each supporting plate 15 is cut away from its upper edge to provide a'pair of spaced, recessed The supporting plates 15 are each in horizontal alinement with a plate on the opposite wall of the cabinet, the recessed portions of each plate being disposed in alinement with the recessed portions of the corresponding plate. A plurality of transversely curved strips 16 have their ends mounted Within corresponding recessed portions of each plate and abut each other so as to form transversely extending roll holders 18 which are substantially U-shaped in cross section. A securing plate 19 is attached to each side wall directly beneath each supporting plate, and is provided with spaced, depending portions 20 adapted to be received within the ends of each pair of holders 18. The depending portions 20 have their edges curved to conform with the shape of the holders so that they securely combine the ends of the strips Within the recessed portions of the supporting plates. The horizontal edges of each pair of roll holders lie in the same horizontal plane, a brace 21 being provided between the inner edges of each holder.

An auxiliary holder 22 having a transversely curved body portion adapted to support a roll of cloth is provided with a longitudinally central rib on its under surface which is adapted to be positioned within each of the spaces 21 between the main roll holders.

The outer horizontal portion of the upper edge of each supporting plate in each horizontal pair has secured thereto the ends of spaced inner and outer guide bars 23 and 24 respectively, whose upper faces are curved transversely so as to provide smooth bearing surfaces for the cloth as it is drawn out of each holder. A guide slot 25 is provided between the inner and outer guide bars of each set for the reception of the transversely sliding cutting blade 26 of the cutting implements 27 shown in detail in F l of the drawings and to be more fully described hereinafter.

The front and rear of the base of the cabinet is provided with transversely extending strips 28, a space being provided therebetween on the upper surface of the base for the reception of a plurality of rolls of cloth which are not in use but are merely stored therein.

A depending roller arm. 25) is pivoted to each supporting plate directly beneath the edge of each superimposed roll holder, as at 30, and is provided at its lower end with an inwardly extending pivot pin 31 upon which is rotatably mounted a roller 32-. These roller arms are thus arranged in horizontal pairs above each roll holder, so that their rollers will come to bear against the upper surface of the cloth when it is being withdrawn from the holder to prevent the roll from jumping out of its holder after having become very light in weight. These rollers also serve to hold the cloth down against the guide bars, thus facilitating the cut-ting of the cloth. An eye 32 is secured to the rear edge of each roller arm adjacent its lower end and adapted to be engaged by a hook 32* secured to the supporting plate so as to hold the arm in operative position.

After the cloth has been measured, it is cut off by using the cutting implement 27 shown in Fig. i, or the modified form shown in Fig. In Fig. 5 is shown a body 45 provided in its under surface with a concaved portion 4.6 adapted to bear against the curved upper surface of any pair-of guide bars. T he body 45 is provided with a vertically extending opening t? in communication with the upper face of the body and positioned directly above the guide slot provided between the guide bars. A vertically extending slot 48 extends laterally from the opening 47 and is in comn'iunication with the said opening so as to permit the introduction of a vertical cutting plate 49 which is adapted to be secured in position by means of a split pin 50 which extends downwardly into the opening 47 and whose bifurcated portions 51 engage each side of the said blade. The lower portion of the blade 49 is adapted to extend into the guide slot, so that upon longitudinal motion of the blade through the slot the concaved under surface of the implement will bear against the cloth passing over the guide bars and the blade will transversely sever the cloth.

In Fig. 5 I have shown a cutting implement 52'liaving a reversible plate 53 centrally mounted upon a thread shaft 5a which passes through a central opening in the blade. A pair of locking plates 55 and 56 are threaded on the shaft and adapted. upon being turned in reverse directions to engage the opposite faces of the blade and thus secure the same rigidly in position. Bearing rolls 57 and 58 are rotatably mounted upon the shaft at each side of the locking plates, the reduced portion of each roller being located innermost with respect to the blade so that a concaved surface is presented by the rollers making the same and adapted to bear against the curved upper surface of the guide bars when the device is in operative position with either extremity of the cutting plate slidably mounted within the guide slot. A suitable handle 59 is attached at one of the shaft 54 to afford meansby which the implement may be grasped in order to operate the same. In using an implement such as this particular form, the rollers will pass over the cloth when it is drawn over the guide arms so as to eliminate friction between the implement and the same which would tend to wear the edges of the cloth.

A tally card 61 is mounted within a re ceptacle (32 provided therefor on the outer surface of the side wall 9 of the cabinet adjacent the end of each foremost roll holder therein. Each card is adapted to have inscribed thereon the cost and selling price of each particular roll of cloth and also each different length of cloth cut therefrom, so that upon glancing upon one of the cards the amount of cloth remaining within the cor1'es )onding holder may be readily ascertained. Similar cards (33 are mounted within receptacles 6% carried by the opposite wall 8 of the cabinet adjacent the rear edge thereof for use in connection with the rear set of roll holders.

hat I claim is:

1. In a device of the class described, a cabinet body, a pair of horizontal, main rollholding shelves disposed within said body with their adjacent side edges in spaced parallel relation, and an auxiliary shelf disposed between said main shelves and supported thereby.

2. In a device of the class described, a cabinet body, a pair of horizontal, main rollholding shelves disposed Within said body with their adjacent side edges in spaced parallel relation, and an auxiliary shelf disposed above the adjacent edges of the main shelves and including abody supported by 10 said edges, and a depending rib interposed therebetWeen.
