By this construction the core can be freely rotated by the crank handle to wind the wire from the roll within the tubular casingy 13.
The core 26 is provided longitudinally with a V-shaped recess 36 which receives a corresponding wedge section 37, said sectionv being hingedly connected at'one Alongitudinal edge to the core and adapted to be secured at its opposite longitudinal edge tothe core by suitable clampmg means as indi- :cated by the numeral 38.
Vhen it is desired to remove* a desired length of 'wire from the uppermost roll of the reel, the free endA of the `wire is engaged within the V-shaped groove of the core and rigidly held through the medium of the wedge section. Then by rotating the crank handle any desired amount of wire may be taken'from the wire roll and wound upon the core.
39 indicates a measuring device supported by vthe upper end of the display stand by which the wire as it is wound upon the core may be accurately measured, said measurement being plainly visible at all time as the wire is being measured. The measuring de'- vice is supported by. a suitable bracket 40 attached to the standard 3. 41 indicates a supporting arm which is pivotally connected at one end of the bracket 40 as at 42, while its 'other end is'connected to the casing' 43 of the measuring device. A friction wheel 44 is journaled within the'casing and carries a pin 45 on one face thereof'which is adapted to engage the teeth of a wheel 47. The friction wheel 44 isV adaptedto bearupon the core and be rotated by the rotation of the latter. vThe friction wheel 44 isV adapted -to be held against counter rotation by a spring 44a having one end secured to the casing and the other end bearing against the wheel opies olithis patent may be obtained fo'r five cents each, by addressing Walhigton? and coperating with ratchet shoulders 44b onthe wheel 44. IOne 'of the trunnions 48 of the vvvheel44 is' provided with a pointer 49 which coperates with graduations 50 graduations 53. The graduations 50 indicate inches while the graduations 53 indicate feet, and it is to be understood that each revolution ofthe wheel 44 Will cause the wheel 47 to move one-notch by' virtue of the pin 45 engaging a tooth thereof. y Y
When itis desired to attach the free end of the wire to the core 26, the measuring device may be swung upwardly into an out of the way position against an angular stop 54 carried by the bracket 40. After the wire has been attached, the measuring device may again be swung down/into position and by virtue of itsv own Weight willA Vfirmly rest upon the core and accurately measure the wire as itis wound thereon. v
Having described my invention, what I provided with va lateral flange'at one end to engage one of the loops, and a winding core` wound upon said standards in valinement with theaxis lof said reel.

A display stand comprising a support= ing base, standards at opposite sides thereof, a wire roll supporting reel journaled upon and between said standards and embodying opposite spaced head plates, spring loops attached` circumferentially to each head at vspaced intervals and adjacent said stand ards, a wire roll casing adapted to pass through each alin'ed pairv of said loops and provided with a lateral ange at one end to engage one of the loops, a winding core provided at one' end with a trunnion to seat in va slot atthe top of one standard and at the opposite end with a socketed plate, and a winding shaft rotatably mounted at the up-` per end of one standard ,andr providedatits inner end with means to fit the socket in said plate.
