which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a foot-plate of a weather-strip, provided with a st-rengthening-rod, which acts as a weight for raising the front edge of the foot-plate, and provided with a spring peculiarly arranged for giving a lateral movement to said plate, and also provided with' a guide for depressing the frontv edge of said plate, as more fully hereinafter shown land described.
In the drawing- Figure lrepresents aver-tical section of my invention.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section.
Figure 3 is a view, showing the hinge and spring.
a represents the frame of the door.
b is the door.
c is the threshold.
l is the curved plate attached to the door, as shown in figs. 1, 2, and 4. A
e is tbe foot-plate. This is made preferably of sheet metal, and the back edge is strengthened by a round rod, f, running its entire length, the edge ofthe plate being bent around it, as shown in figs. l and 4. This rod also acts as a weight to hold the foot-plate in a horizontal position while the door is open, (see g. 4.)
The foot-plate works upon the hinges hv and h', and is held in place by the staples gand g".
j is a spiral spring, coiled around the pin z', (said pin forming part of the hinge h3) and pressing the. staple g", thus holding the end ofthe foot-plate against the frame at a'.
By opening and closing the door the plate will rnove laterally upon the hinges, and thereby allow the" use of allonger plat-e than could be used it' worked upon ordinary hi'n'ges without lateral motion. v
7.'. is a .'uidmfastened to the frame in such a' inanner that in closing the door said guide will carry the front edge of the foot-plate down upon the threshold, in which position the apparatus will effectually exclude dust, rain, and cold.
-I claim as my invention- The plate c, hinged as shown, and provided with the spring j acting against thev staple g", and also provided ith the rod j', said rod acting as a weight for raising the front edge of the plate c, and at the saine time strengthening said plate, the above being cornbined with the plate d andthe guide k, and constructed arranged, and operated in the manner substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes specified.
