Description

Tun-ital $21125 152mm (itililim Letters Patent No. 106,573, dated August 23, 187 0.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUND.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Lnwis L. Grammar, M. IL, of New Providence, in the county of Clark, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and nsefnl'lmprovement in Medical Compound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip- 'tion thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to furnish, and consists in, the medical compound formed of the ingredicms hereinafter set forth.
In comparing my improved medical compound, I use the following formula:
Balsam of fir; chloroform; nitric other; sulphuric other; sarsnparilla, fluid extract; tincture Oolumbo radix; tincture guaiacnm, ac f z ii; camphora; spirits tcrebinthine; oleuin cedar; oleum wintergrcen olcum Wormwood, a cf .1 i; oleum hemlock, f: i s s; tincture capsicum; olenm Sassafras, a a f :2 iii; flor. sambrccus cunadensis, z i alcohol, Oongpi. Mix.
My improved compound is designed for internal and also external or local application to the human body, and, in this latter respect, to take the place of alcohol, which has been previously and is still used for producing local action when applied to the surface,
and fol-affecting the system by absorption into the general circulation of the blood-vessel All the ingredients in my compound have not endesmotic properties, but, when combined with the others, .and particularly chloroform and ether, are readily taken up in the general circulation, by means of the lymphatics and absorbents.
This medicine is particularly applicable in nervous diseases, mostly rheumatic and neuralgia incharactcr, and by it I secure a quicker and more permanent action when'applied locally; and, as an agent for internal use, its action is not only to relieve pain temporarily, but decidedly to cure disease by meeting every requirement, by acting as alterative, tonic, stimulant, febril'uge, and diuretic, and as a powerful anodine.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The medical compound, prepared of the ingredients and in the manner substantially as herein set forth and described.
