Description

defied swat OTWAY P. HARE, OF PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA.
Letters Patent No. 104,146, dated June 14,1870.
IMPROVED LINIMENI.
The Schedule referred toin these Letters Patent and making part ofi the Same To all whom'it may concern:
Be it known that l, OTWAY P. HARE, of Petersburg, in the county of Diuwiddie and State of Virginia, have invented a certain new and useful Liniment; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in a liniment adapted to cure rheumatism, neuralgia, nervous headache, and all analogous diseases; and
To enable others to make and use my improved liniment, I will proceed to describe the manner in which it is made and applied.
I start, as abase, with eight ounces of tincture aconite root, to which I add twelve ounces tincture arnica flowers, eight ounces laudannm, (Tr. opii,) eight ounces tincture wild arsenic, eight ounces tincture belladonna leaves, fourounces fluid extract prickly-ash, six ounces pure oil 'camphor, six ounces cajeput, (pure, only,) and sixteen ounces chloroform; mixing them well and thoroughly together finishes the process of manufacture. The liniment is then bottled and tightly corked.
The quantities above set forth are enumerated merely for the purpose of establishing the proportions, which must be adhered to in large or small quantities. i In order that the liniment should have the desired efiect, it must be applied in the following manner:
First, saturate a piece of cloth about the size of the hand with two or three teaspoon'fuls of the liniment, covering the side of the cloth next the hand with oilsilk or bladder, and be sure, by pressure, to exclude the air from the part affected. In a few moments it will become warm, and .when too hot, rub the parts well until all the liniment shall have beenabsorbed.
I have found, after long and careful experiment, that the ingredients mixed and applied as set forth produce speedy and perfect cures of the diseases named.
The bottle containing the liniment must always be i Witnesses:
SAML. G. DONXAX, J AS. M. Dorms.
