HARRY T. LOOMIS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DISPLAY-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 27, 1911.
Patented J une 2d, 1913. semina. 640,736.
To all whom 1f may concern Be it known that I, HARRY T. Looms, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain l new and useful Improvements in Display- Boxes, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art- -to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to boxes designed` for use as receptacles for and as means for displaying gowns or robes of various kinds and classes and particularly7 for displaying burial robes or gowns.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a plan view of my improved box with the cover removed and showing a gown or garment of the class specified folded therein; Fig. 2 a longitudinal sectional view of said box taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. l and showing the cover of the box in position; Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. 2, but showing the cover of the box removed and Fig. 4 a partial section on the line -fl of Fig. l and on an enlarged scale.
In the practice of my invention I provide an oblong rectangular box a comprising a body portion I) anda removable top or cover c, and the body portion b is open at the top and reinforced by an inner strip or band CZ passed entirely around and within the same.
The body of the box and the cover c are preferably composed of fibrous material such as pasteboard or the like but said parts may be composed of any suitable material and the reinforcing strip (Z is for the purpose of strengthening the body portion of ,of a burial robe or gown t-he box and for forming an attachment for a central transverse removable folder device comprising, in the construction shown, a rod or bar e provided with a supplemental yoke-shaped member e2 rotatably mounted thereon In the form of construction shown the rod or bar c is provided at its ends with iinger pieces e3 which project at an angle therefrom and which are adapted to enter L- Shaped recesses Z2 in the reinforcing strip (Z at the opposite sides of the box and centrally thereof.
I have also shown at f ,thebody portion and said robe is provided with a-skirt portion f2 `and sai-d skirt portion is adapted to be folded at f3 and to pass through the yoke-shaped attachment e2 connected with the cross-rod or bar e as clearly shown in Figs. l and 2, in which posit-ion of said skirt portion the bottom par-t f4 .thereof lies snugly in the box and on the folded part f3 of said skirt portion.
In Fig. l I have shown a robe or gown fully folded within the bottom portion of the box and in Fig. 3 the said gown is shown fully extended for display purposes, the cover of the box being removed in both Figs. l and 3, while in Fig. 2 the robe or gown is shown in t-he same position as in Fig. l with the cover of the box in position.
In practice, the body of the robe or gown is stitched or otherwise secured to the bottom of the box at different points as indicated at g so as to securely hold said robe or gown in position in the box under all circumstances and at the same time not interfere with the folding of or display of the skirt portion as shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3.
My invention is not limited to the exact rform and construction of the transverse rod or bar e and its attachment ci as herein described and any suitable device of this class may be employed, all that is necessary being that said device be readily detachable from the body of the box and be so formed that the skirt may be folded thereover or passed therethrough as shown in Figs. l and 2.
Having fully described what I claim as new and Letters Patent, is
l. A display box for dresses having a closed bottom portion and being open at the top, said box being provided with a skirt supporting yoke, pivotally and removably connected to the box sides near the top edges thereof, but sufficiently below said edges to permit the cover to be placed on the box, and having no other connection with the box, whereby said yoke will support the skirt portion of the dress, when in normal position, and hold it away from the other portions of the same, and whereby said yoke can be bodily and entirely removed from the box to permit the display of the skirt below my invention, desire to secure by the saine and to facilitate replacing,- the skirt in folded position Within the box.
2. A display boX of the class described comprising e. body herring,` :i closed bottom portion and being open et the top, the side Wells of the body being provided with hori Zontelly and vertically disposed recessed port-ions in communication with each other, a detachable bar adapted to lie in said horizontal recessed portions and having projec tions for detzrchebly engaging seid Vcrtically disposed recesses, the en-egenient of sii-id projections and recesses rorniing the only Connection between Jthe bar and the box, :1nd 1r yoke having portions parallel to said ber, and provided at each end with a perpendicular portion piyotelly engaging said bar nea-r the adjacent vertically disposed portion thereof and e cover for seid box whereby said yoke, in normal position, Will support the skirt portion of o dress and hold it away from the other portions thereof and whereby seid ber and yoke may be bodily removed from the box to permit the display of the skirt below the box und to 'facilitate replacing the skirt in the box in engagement with said bar.
In testimony as my invention have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 26th dey of July, 1911.
HARRY T. LOOMIS.
