NEGKTIB HOLDER.
APPLIOATION IILED MAY 6, 1911.
Paltented June WV f V I amvmtoz UNITED STATS PA JOSIAH J'. DEAL, OF CANTON, OHIO; OMAN F. DEAL ADMINISTRATOR OF SAID JOSIAH J. DEAL, DECEASED.
NEGKTIE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 6, 1911.
Patented June 24, 1913. Serial No. 625,619.
in connection with the necktie and the collar button, by means of which the necktie proper can be connected to the collar button and afterward moved down so as to properly clear the collar and then moved upward and held so that the proper portion of the necktie will come under the overlying flaps of the collar and retained in that position by means of an elastic band.
The objects of the invention are to provide means for easily connecting the necktie and holding the same in proper position and at the same time preventing any accidental displacement of the necktie when properly adjusted. These obj ects, together with other objects readily apparent to those skilled in the art I attain by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, although my invention may be embodied in a variety of other mechanical forms, the construction illustrated being chosen by Way of example.
In the accompanying drawing-Figure 1 is a view showing a portion of a collar, the front of the necktie in lowered position. Fig. 2 is a view showing the back of the necktie. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the metal plate and its different parts, showing the elastic band and button loop properly connected together. Fig. 4 is a view showing the upper portion of the holding plate and the elastic hand holding pin or bar. Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing the collar and necktie in proper relative and normal positions. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of a collar showing the necktie in the lowered position corresponding with the position shown in Fig. 1.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawing, 1 represents the metal plate to which the necktie 2 is properly connected. The necktie within itself forms no specific part of the present invention and is shown conventionally as it will be understood that various forms of neckties may be employed without departing from the nature of the invention. The
top or upper portion of the plate 1 is provlded with the elongated slot 3, through which slot the elastic band 4 is passed and is held by the cross bar or pin 5, which pin is passed between the members of the elastic band 4.
For the purpose of providing means for easily removing the band or elastic strip 4 the bar or pin 5 is removably connected to the plate 1, and in order to so removably connect the bar or pin 5 one of its ends is bent at right angles to the length of the bar or pin and the opposite end may be curved or provided with the curved end 6 so that the straight angled portion 7 can be easily withdrawn and the elastic band 4 slipped from the pin or bar 5 and the new band connected. The plate 1 is provided with the ears 8, which ears are preferably formed integral with the plate 1 and are for the purpose of holding the bar 9 upon which bar is mounted the roller 10. The elastic band or strip 4 is passed between the roller 10 and the face of the plate 1 as best illustrated in Fig. 3 and the end of the band or elastic strip provided with the button loop 11, which button loop is preferably provided with the roller 12.
In use when it is desired to connect the button loop 11 to the collar button 13 the lower end of the elastic strip is turned upward and around the roller 10 after which the loop 11 is connected to the collar button 13. After the loop 11 has been attached to the collar button 13, the plate 1 together with the necktie carried by the plate can be moved downward and into the position illustrated in Fig. 1, thereby stretching the band or strip 4 and when in this position the prongs 14 of the plate 1 can be adjusted so as to come under the collar flaps and by reason of the band being in a stretched position when the necktie is lowered it will have a tendency to move or pull the necktie upward and into the position illustrated in Fig. 5 and when in that position the rubber band or strip 4 assumes its unstretched or normal position, but is prevented from a downward movement owing to the fact that any downward movement will stretch the elastic band 4.
For the purpose of holding the sides of the necktie 2 in close relationship with reference to the plate 1, the pin 15 is passed through the sides of the necktie and through the apertures 16 formed in the ears 8, the pin being bent so as not to become easily detached.
It will be understood that the ears 8, the bar 9 and the roller 10 constitute what might be termed a loop through which the elastic strap is passed and form a guide for said elastic strap and at the same time provide means for bringing the strap into stretched condition by the downward pull oi the neck tie plate or body after the button loop has been properly connected to the collar button.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein described necktie holder consisting of the combination of a plate provided at its upper end with an elongated slotlocated midway between edges of said plate, a pin detachably connected to the plate and adapted to bridge the slot, the
lower portion of said plate providedrtvith a a roller spaced from the face ofsaid plate and means for supporting the roller, an elastic band located through said .slot in the upper portion of the plate and adapted to be held by the pin located across the slot, a button-clip connected to the elastic strip and the strip adapted for contact with the roller carried by and located at one side of the plate, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSIAH J. DEAL.
