INTERFERING-BOOT FOR HORSES.
Application filed May 22, 1912.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 24, 1913.
Serial No. 698,877.
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT SCHWEMBER- GER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Albany, in the county of Floyd and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Interfering-Boots for Horses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement upon the interfering boot for which Letters Patent was granted to me August 9, 1910, Number 966,607.
The improvement relates specifically to the manner of securing the fender in position upon the strap with the addition of a longitudinally adjustable pad.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with the parts in the position occupied when in use, the foot of a horse being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the device, a strap being shown partly in plan. Fig. 3 is a section upon the irregular line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In these drawings 1 represents a strap adapted' to encircle the leg of the horse immediately above the hoof, and said strap is provided at one end with a suitable buckle 2 and the other end portion is provided with the usual openings 3 to receive the tongue of the buckle. Secured upon said strap and adjacent the buckle is a pad 4, the pad being secured at one end' only and overlapping the inner face of the buckle. Midway the ends of the strap is arranged a wooden fender 5. This fender is carried by a leather plate 6, upon the inner face of which is arranged a metal washer 7 and a suitable screw 8 passes through said washer into the fender 5. A second leather plate 9 is riveted upon the inner face of the plate 6 and the strap 1 passes between the leather plates 6 and 9, the plates being riveted together upon opposite sides of said strap. The inner face of the plate 9 carries a suitable pad 10. Leather strips 11 are riveted together adj a cent their upper and lower ends, thereby forming a loop through which the strap 1 passes, said strips being movable longitudinally along said strap, and being arranged between the free ends of the strap and the pad 10. The inner strip 1l carries a pad 12. Adjustment of the loop formed by the strips 11 will of course adjust the pad 12 along the strap 3.
It will be noted that the pads 4 and 9 have their greatest length in a horizontal plane, while the pad 12 has its greatest length in a vertical plane or at right angles to the strap 1.
What I claim is:
An interfering boot comprising a strap, means for connecting the ends of the strap, a pad adapted to cover said fastening means, leather plates secured together and arranged upon opposite sides of said strap, a metal washer carried by the inner face of one of said plates, a fender arranged upon the outer face of the same plate, a screw passing through said washer and into said fender, the leather strap covering said washer, a pad carried by the other plate, and a third pad carried by the strap between the last mentioned pad and the free end of the strap, said third pad being adjustable along the strap and having its longer axis arranged at right ang-les with respect to the longer axes of the previously mentioned pads.
ALBERT SCHWEMBERGER.
