Description
JAMES Il. RUFRY'OF THOMAS RUN POST-OFFICE, MARYLAND.
Letters `Patent o.106,509, dated August 16,1870.
IMPROVED IRONING TABLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To allvwhom 'it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES H. RUFF, of Thomas Run Post-Oce, in the county of Harford and State ot" Maryland, have invented'certain new and nsefulImprovements in Ironing-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the'construction and arrangement of an ironing-table, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invent-ion appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring `to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, and
Figure 2, al; end View of my improved ironingboard.
A represents the board itself', made in the usual way, tapering, and with rounded ends.
Across the under side ofthe board A, near the .larger end, is secured a metal bar, a, having its ends turned down, so as to form ears, which are inserted in.
.slots in the upper ends ofthe legs B B.
frames are connected by a bar, E, the two lower rods D D passing one through each Aend ot' the bar E," and turn in the same.
On each side of the bar E is pivoted a brace, G, which is provided at its outer end with a hook, d.
These hooks are hooked into a project-ion, Ie, on the rods O, that'is, one hooks into sucha projection on each frame, and thus said frames are steadied, so as to support firmly the board A.
The board being hinged at one end, as above de scribed, the other end is readily lifted npfor skirts or other similar articles to be placed on the .same for ironin'g. i
At one end of tleboard A, on the under side, is a metallic loop, j, and at the other end is an elastic loop, g, sothat, when the frames and braces are folded up, they may be held or fastened on the under side ot' the board, and the whole put out of the way.
Having thus fully described my vinvent-ion,
What I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Thecombination ot' the frames-B G D, connecting-har E, and braces G G, with hooks d d, and projections c e, ali substantially as and 'for the' purposes herein set forth.
2. In combination with the above, the board A, with its metal bar a, metallic loop j, and elastic loop g, all substantially as and for, the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own,
I am): my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
JAS. H. RUFE.
