. UNITED STATES ()FFIQE,
LIBORIUS SENGE, 0F CRESCENT SPRINGS, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR TO THE GLOBE- WERNICKE COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO;
ADJUSTABLE SHELF! To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LIBORIUS SENGE, a
of its adjusted positions can not become I changed therefrom by accident, and it has for its object the provision of simple, cheap and eflicient mechanism for accomplishing the above purpose.
The novelty of my invention will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically pointed out in the claini.
In the drawing: Figure l .is a broken perspective view of a part of a safe showing one of my adjustable shelves in place therein. Fig. 2 is a broken bottom plan view, partly in section, of my adjustable shelf. Fig. 3 is an-end view of Fig. 2.
The same numerals of reference are used to indicate identical parts in all the figures.
In its preferred form of construction my shelf consists of the main shelf portion 1 composed of sheet metal having its ends rolled over, as at 2, its rear edge rolled over,
as at 8, and its front edge rolled. over, as at 1. Pins 55 are inserted in the rear ends of the openings formed, by the rolled over ends 2-2, and these pins 5 project a sufficient distance to support the rear end of the shelf when the same is in place in the safe. Pins 66 having handles 7 7 are inserted in the two ends formed by the rolled over front edge 4, the handles 77 extending through slots 88 in the rolled over portion 4: to permit of manual operation of the pins 6-6. A spring ,9 is strung onto the reduced end ofeach' pin 6, and a detent 10, forming an abutment for said spring 9, serves, through the action of said spring, to normally press said pin outward so that it extends beyond the ends of said shelf 1.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed November 30, 1910. Serial No. 594,987.
- 'ieaeenteaaane'ir, 1913.,
A double row of openings 11, one row on each side and arranged vertically is provided in the rear wall 12 ,of the safe, and a single similar row of openings 13 is provided in the front edge of each side wall 14 of the safe, all of the openings 11 and 13 being arranged in series in such manner that each series is on thesame level plane, and the spacing apart of these planes may be equidistant or not according to thev use to which the safe is to be put.
To place the shelf in-position in'the safe the operator grasps the front edge thereof, one end in each hand, and by engaging the handles 77 compresses the spring 99 thus drawing the pins 66 within the area of the shelf 1 and permitting thepins 55 to engage the openings 111l in the rear wall 152 of the safe, upon which engagement, pins 66 come opposite openin s 13 l3, and upon releasing handles 7 springs 9-9 become efiective to cause engagement pins 66 come opposite openings 1313 thereby securely locking said shelf in position, as will be readily understood. To remove the shelf froin the safe the operator simply depresses springs99 through handles 77, thereby disengaging pins 6-6 from openings 13-13, and by withdrawing the shelf fro-m the safe, disengaging the pins 5 5 from the openings 11.11, whereu on the shelf may be reinserted in another p ace or left out of the safe as may be preferred.
1 Having thus fully described my invention I claim In an adjustable shelf of the character de- LrBonrus SENGE.
