To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, HILLARD J. Form, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrode-I-Iolders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to electrode holders for electric head lights and has for an object to provide an adjusting screw for manually advancing the electrode through the holder jaws as the electrode becomes shortened, the screw having a flat side against which a helical spring bears, this spring preventing accidental retrograde movement of the screw while at the same time permitting of the screw being readily manually turned.
A further object of the invention is to provide an electrode holder which may be constructed of a few extremely simple and durable parts which will not easily get out of order.
With the above objects in view the inven tion consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification :-Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of electrode holder embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the parts shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross sec tional view taken on the line 33 Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, 10 designates a substantially semicylindrical holder having a ti-shaped inner wall 11 to receive the copper electrode 12. The holder is equipped at the lower end with an attaching lug 13. Above the attaching lug the holder is provided with a lug l4c ex tending from the holder at a right angle and being provided with a vertically disposed Specification of Letters Patent.

threaded opening 15 to receive an adjusting screw 16 which bears against the bottom of the electrode. The screw is provided with a flat smooth longitudinal face 17.
Formed in the lug 14: is a longitudinal recess 18 within which is housed a helical spring 19 which bears at the inner end against the fiat face 17 of the screw. The spring is of sufficient length to extend out through the lug and is normally held under slight compression against the fiat face of the screw to hold the screw against accidental retrograde movement while at the same time permitting of the screw being readily manually turned for adjusting the electrode 12.
A pair of hinge lugs 20 are formed integral with the holder, above the lug 14, and a rocking jaw 21 is piv-otally connected intermediate the ends to these hinge lugs by a pivot pin 22 passed through the lugs and jaw. The upper end of the jaw is held against the electrode through the instrumentality of the above mentioned spring 19 which bears at the outer end against the lower end of the jaw. The spring thus performs the dual function of holding the screw against accidental retrograde movement and holding the rocking aw1n operative position to clamp the electrode against the holder.
