- Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT lViTMnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vernal, in the county of Uinta and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in stove pipe fasteners.
One object of the invention is to provide a stove pipe fastener having an improved construction and arrangement of pipe engaging mechanism whereby the flue engaging member of the device may be securely fastened to the pipe in position to engage the inner wall of a chimney flue and to thereby fasten the pipe in the stove pipe hole of the flue.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which will be simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, efficient and reliable in operation and which may be readily applied to a pipe and engaged with a chimney flue.
"With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a portion of a chimney flue and stove pipe showing the application of the invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 22 and looking upwardly toward the lower side of the fastener; Fig. 3 is a vertical cross sectional view of the fastener taken on a line with the clamping screw thereof; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the fastener removed from the pipe.
My improved stove pipe fastener comprises a flue engaging member 1 and a clamping member 2. The flue engaging member 1 is in the form of a fiat metal bar of suitable length and width and which has one end bent at right angles to form a stop lug 3, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described. In the bar 1 is formed a central longitudinally disposed slot 4 which is adapted to receive the clamping screw 5 which secures the fastener to the stove pipe.
The clamping member 2 comprises a clip in the form of a short rectangular plate the ends of which are bent or folded inwardly to form guide lugs 6 between which and the plate is slidably engaged the bar 1. The clamping member 2 is adj ustably secured to the flue engaging member or bar 1 by a set screw 7 which has a threaded engagement with a screw hole formed in the plate of the clamping member preferably near one end thereof and which is adapted to be screwed into engagement with the lower side of the bar 1 as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. By providing the set screw 7 it will be seen that the clamping member after being adjusted to the desired position on the bar 1 may be securely fastened thereto.
The clamping screw 5 has a threaded engagement with a screw hole 8 formed in the center of the clamping member 2. The screw 5 has a Hat pipe engaging head 9 and a sharp pointed end 10 whereby said end of the screw may be readily forced through a stove pipe after which the end of the screw is projected between the inner ends of the rude lugs 6 and through the slot 4 and is then screwed through the screw hole 8 in the clamping member until the fiat head 9 of the screw is brought into engagement with the outer side of the stove pipe thereby securely clamping the latter between said head of the screw and the outer sides of the guide lugs 6 as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. When the clamping member 2 is drawn up against the inner side of the pipe by the screw 5 in the manner described the line engaging member is also carried upwardly by the clamping member thus engaging the lug 3 on the inner end of the bar 1 with the in ner side of the flue adjacent to the edge of the stove pipe hole therein as shown.
It will be noted that the screw 5 is of greater length than the length of the flue engaging lug 3 so that when engaging the end of the stove pipe with the pipe hole in the flue the clamping member 2 may be screwed downwardly to a suflicient distance on the screw 5 to hold the clamping member in such position that the upper end of the lug 3 will not project beyond the side of the stove pipe and interfere with the engagement of the latter with the stove pipe hole in the flue. The length of the screw 5 also permits the clamping member 2 and flue engaging member to be screwed downwardly thereon a suflicient distance for disengaging the lug 3 from the inner side of the fine when it is desired to remove the stove pipe.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advan tages of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A stove pipe fastener comprising a flue engaging member, a clamping member having a sliding engagement with said flue engaging member, means to fasten said clamping member in its adiusted position on the flue engaging member, and a clamping screw adapted to be forced through a stove pipe and having a threaded engagement with said clamping member whereby the latter and the flue engaging member are clamped to the stove pipe in position for operatively engaging the flue member of the device with the inner side of a flue.
2. A stove pipe fastener comprising a flue engaging member having therein a longitudinal slot, and a flue engaging lug formed on one end of said flue engaging member, a clamping member comprising a cliphaving a sliding engagement with said flue engaging member and having therein a screw hole, means to adjustably fasten the clamping member to the flue engaging member, and a clamping screw adapted tobe forced through one side of a, stove pipe and to be engaged with the screw hole in said clamping member whereby the. latter and the flue engaging member are fastened to the stove pipe. in
position for engaging the lug on the flue member with the inner side of the flue.
3. In a stove pipe fastener a flue engaging member comprising a bar having therein a longitudinal slot and having on one end a right angularly formed flue engaging lug, a clamping member comprising a plate having its ends bent inwardly to form guide lugs between which and said plate the bar of the flue member is slidably engaged, said plate having therein a centrally disposed screw hole, a. set screw arranged in the plate and adapted to be screwed into engagement with the. inner side of the bar of the flue member whereby the, clamping member is adjustably secured to the latter and a clamping screw having a head provided with a flat pipe engaging surface and a pointed end whereby said screw may be forced through I one side of a stove pipe and screwed into engagement with. the screw hole in, said clamping member thereby drawing thev latter and the flue member into engagement with the inner side of the pipe in which position the lug on the end of the flue member is brought into engagement with the inner side of a flue,said screw having a greater length than said flue, engaging lug whereby the latter may be disengaged from the. fine without entirel y disengaging the screw from said clamping member.
