DEVICE FOR REMOVING BOTTLE-CAPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. June 17, 1%13.
Application filed December 27, 1912. Serial No. 738,945.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWIN J. SI-IAUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Removing Bottle-Caps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
This invention relates to improvements in devices for removing bottle caps.
One object of the'invention is to provide a bottle cap remover adapted to be applied toand t6 remain in permanent engagement with the neck of a bottle in osition to be engaged with the caps of'the ottle, whereby said caps may be quickly removed.
Another object is to provide a bottle cap ple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, efiicient and reliable in operation and which is small and will not interfere with the filling, packing or using of the bottle. I
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arran ement of parts as will be more fully descri ed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side. view of the neck of a bottle showing my improved cap removing device in place thereon and in normal or inoperative position; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the manner in which the parts are operated for remo ing the ca of the bottle; Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the device showing the parts thereof separated.
My improved bottle opener comprises an attaching and supporting band or ring 1 the bent outwardly to form parallel boa ring lugs 2 in which are formed alined vertically disposed slots 3 and alined bolt or rivet holes 4. If desired, the band or ring 3 may be slotted or recessed longitudinally as shown at 5 thereby saving metal and reducing the weight of the device.
Slidabl mounted between the inner portions of t e lugs 2 is'a cap engaging finger 6 having in its inner end a bdlt or rivet hole 7 which registers with the slots 3 on the lugs 2 and through which and having a sliding engagementwith the slots 3 is a finger attaching bolt or rivet 8,- whereby the finger 6 is slidably secured to the ring or band 1.
Pivoted at its angle between the outer ends of the lugs 2 is an L-shaped lever 9 comprising afifiat apertured handle 10 and a short inturned arm 11, standing below the inner arm of the finger 6, said end being rounded or curved as shown. When in normal position the lever 10 folds up along the outer side of the finger 6 as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings and when said lever is operated or the handle end thereof swung outwardly and downwardly will en'- gage the rounded end of the finger 6 thereby.
forcing or projecting the latter upwardly which operation will cause-the upper end of the finger to engage and unseat or force the cap from the upper end of the bottle neck as clearly indicated ingFig. 2 of the drawings.
-My improved cap removing device is formed of any suitable non-corrosive metal and, as hercinbefore'stated, is designed to remain permanently on the neck of the bottle and may be repeatedly used for removing the successive caps which are placed on the bottle when the latter is refilled. By permancntly attaching the device to the bottle the same is always at hand and in place when needed and takes the place of the usual form of separate cap removing device which is frequently misplaced and cannot be found when needed.
From the foregoing description, taken. in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invent-ion as claimed.
Having thus particularly described my '10() described bottle cap remover invention, what I claim is:
The herein comprising a band adapted to encircle the neck of "a bottle and having outturned lugs formed with alined slots and rivet holes, a bolt passing through the slots, a finger having one end standing between the lugs and pivotally mounted on the bolt and its In testimony whereof I have hereunto set other end adapted to engage the bottle cap, my hand in presence of two subscribing Willan L-shaped lever having its short arm nornesses.
mally underlying the pivoted end of the EDWIN J. SHAUT. finger, and arivet through its angle and the Witnesses: 4 rivet-holes of said lugs, the Whole operating J OIIN C; Fox,
substantially as described. MARGARET CLARKE.
