UNITE@ STA-@ld PATENT FETCE@ FRANK C. DORMENT, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO WIRELESS VIBRATORI COMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION 0F MICHIGAN.
vinnaron.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 17, 1913.
To all whom if may concern Be it known that I, FRANK C. Dominnr, a citizen of the United States of America, residing' at Detroit-,in the county of lWayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vibrators, of which the following' is a specification, reference beine; had therein to the accompanying` drawings.
This invention relates to a vibrator adapted for self treatment and arranged either for direct application to the body of the user or for vibrating' the chair, stool or other suport on which the subject may be.
rlhe invention includes adjustments whereby the character and direction of the vibrations may be changed together with other features which insurel its easy manipulation.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a vibrat-or that embodies features of the invention showing it attached to a chair or the like; Fig. 2 is a view in elevation taken at right angles to Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a view in detail. of an adjustable yoke; and 11 is a view in detail showing; one form of a massage member.
As herein shown in preferred form a slide rod 1 is frictionallv held at one end in one socket 2 of a combined handle and counterweiejht 3. rlhe angle of adjustment of the slide to the handle may be varied by shifting the slide to another socket if desired, such sockets being` arranged to Irive the necessary oblique relation between the parts. rihe handle is arranged to be adjustably secured on a pivot stud l which passes through the body of a clamp 5.. meeting serrated faces indicated at 6 affording' angular adjustment of the parts and a suitable thumb screw or binding nut T holding' them in adjusted position. If it is desired to pivotally support the slide rod, the handle may be reversed in position as indicated by the dotted. lines at 8, in which instance its serrated face bears against the plane face on the hub and permits the handle to swine; on the bolt.
A member for conveying any vibrations imparted to the slide is attached to the outer end thereof. rThis may take any `desired form, such for example, as that indicated at 9 which is provided with sockets 10 and set screw 11 common to all, whereby it may be clamped in any desired position.
A metal strip is bent upon itself to form a U-shaped yoke having: parallel arms 12 that are connected by a bridge 13 at their outer ends and are apertured to move longitudinally on the rod 1. A pair of parallel vibrating rods 21 pass through guide apertures in the bend of the yoke and aresecured as bv riveting or the like to the bridge 13. A friction roller 14 is journaled on a cross piece 15 which is in sliding engagement with the rods 21 and is projected against the slide member 1 by suitably disposed springs 16 which may preferably be in compression between the bend of the yoke and the cross-piece which may preferably be retained by the rods 21 as keepers. rPhe yoke preferably has roughened faces as indicated at 17 to afford suitable finger grip. A bar 18 with curved sprinp; 19 is adjustable longitudinally on the rods 21.
The clip 5 is arranged to be secured to a chair 2O or the like and also has one or more sockets into which the rod 1 may be inserted and held frictionally if desired, to use without 'the handle.
The device is operated by grasping the finger grip of the yoke and moving` it up and down the slide rod, the resultant vibrations of the free ends of the rods extending from the yoke being` communicated to the slide rod. If one end of the slide rod is inserted in the handle and held by the user, a massage member on the other end of the slide rod may be pressed against any portion of the body of the. user to impart the vibrations of the slide rod thereto. Or the slide rod may be mounted either directly or indirectly in the clamp and the massage member applied as before when the slide rod is vibrated by manipulation of the yoke. If the slide rod be secured in the cla-mp and the comparatively heavy handle be attached to the other end of the slide rod in place of the massage member. manipulation of the yoke results in the vibration of the chair or other support to which the clamp is attached. As the angle of inclination of the slide rod may be altered, the character or direction of the effect of the vibrations may be correspondingly changed. The rapidity of the vibrations may be changed by shifting the cross-piece in or out on the tWo viingly by the springs in contact With the slide compensates for any Wear between the slide and yoke and keeps the parts always in such operative relation that they produce the desired effect. The device may be easily cleaned and is not liable to disarrangement.
Obviously, changes in the details of construction may be made Without departing from the spirit of my invention and I do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.
What I claim is 1. A massaging Vibrator comprising a handle, a slide rod adapted to be adjustably secured therein, means for fixing the handle in desired angular posit-ion, a yoke having arms in sliding engagement With the rod, spring pressed means in the yoke for preventing slack between the arms and the slide rod, and a pair of vibrating rods extending from the yoke.
2. A massaging vibrator comprising a slide rod, a yoke having arms provided With guide apertures through Which the slide rod passes, spring pressed means in the yoke bearing against the slide rod for preventing slack between the latter and the yoke arms and a pair of vibrating rods secured to the yoke to extend transversely to the slide rod.
3. A massaging vibrator compr-rising a slide rod, a handle for adjust-ably securing the slide rod at one end, means for clamping the handle at any desired angle, a pair of vibrating rods transverse to the slide rod, a yoke to Which the vibrating rods are secured, adapted to move longitudinally on the slide rod and yielding means'for main taining the slide rod and yoke in operative relation.
il. A massaging vibrator comprising a slide rod, a U-shaped sheet metal yoke Whose arms are in sliding engagement With the slide rod, a bridge connecting the yoke arm ends, a pair of parallel vibrating rods passing through the bend of the yoke and attached to the bridge, a cross piece sliding on the vibrating rods, a friction roller on the cross piece adapted to bear against the slide rod and springs on the vibrating rods for projecting the cross piece and roller against the slide rod.
5. A massaging vibrator comprising a clamp, a Weighted handle angularly adjustable on the clamp, a slide rod adjustably secured at one end to the handle, a U-shaped metal strip having parallel apertured arms in sliding engagement with the slide rod, a bridge connecting the arms at the ends thereof a pair of vibrator rods secured to the yoke, a cross piece sliding on the rods Within the yoke, a friction roller on the cross piece, springs on the rods for projecting the roller against the slide rod and a Weight bar adjustable longitudinally on the vibrator rods.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of tivo Witnesses.
