Description

E. L. FITZGERALD.
HIDE STRETCHER.
APPLICATION TILED JULY 16, 1912.
1,064,632, Patented June 10, 1913.
Snow vio a COLUMBiA PLANOGRAPH COHWASHINGTONpm c Gbtoweg ENE HIDE-STB-ETCHER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Ennrrrr L. F1Tz GERALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cambridge, in the county of Dorchester and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in I-Iide-St-retchers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to hides, skins and the like and has for an object to provide a stretching frame therefor.
The invention resides, more particularly, in a device preferably formed of a single piece of material such as a spring-like wire bent to form a stretching body, a securing member for securing the hide upon the stretching body in stretching position and a supporting member for supporting the stretching frame on a suitable nail or hook.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of ref erence denote corresponding parts, and in which:
The figure is a perspective view of the device.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, use is made of a single piece of wirelike material 10 bent in a V-shaped form to form a stretching body 11, the said piece of material being then bent laterally and then bent inwardly and looped to form a Se curing member 12 of substantially a V- shape, after which the free end of the said piece of material is looped to form an eye 13.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 16, 1912.
Patented June 10,1913.
Serial No. 709,802.
In the use of the device the hide is thrown over the stretching frame from the front or apex end thereof toward the se- 40 curing member and it will thus be readily seen that in view of the spring-like action of the wire-like material, the sides of the stretching frame tending to expand will suitably stretch the hide, the tail or rear portion of the hide being then secured by passing the same between the portion of material forming the securing member 12, which, being also of a spring-like nature, will grip the tail or rear portion of the hide and retain and secure the same upon the stretching body 11. The eye 13 is provided for the purpose of supporting the hide stretcher either with or without the hide on a suitable nail or hook.
Having thus described my invention, 1. claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a hide stretcher comprising a single piece of springlike material bent in a V-shape to form a stretching body, the said piece of material being then bent to form a securing member having a V-shape and the free end of the said piece of material being then looped to form an eye.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EURITH L. FITZGERALD.
