To all whom it may 'concern Be. it known that I, JOHN W. STo'cKwnLL, of Portland, in the county of' Cumberland and State of Maine,
have invented a; new and useful Improvement in Drain and \Vater-pipe Machine; and 1 do `hereby," declare' thatthe following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to j make and use 'the same, reference being, had to the accompanying drawing forming part ot this specification.

Figure 4 is a side view, partly in section, of the device for forming the tip upon the pipe. Similar letters of reference. indicate corresponding parts. My invention relates to a drain-pipe machine, and consists in the'folloigiug improvements:
First, in combining,with a suspended and oscillating hopper, an auxiliary plate and adj ustablc slide, in a new and improved inanner.
i Second, in' combining, in anew and improved manbroken away to show the conner, a revolving shaftand trowel-carrier with the' core.A

To the upper end o the shaft B is attached a large pulley, C, aroundwhic'h passes a band, I),which also l 'passes around 'a pulley, E, 'attached to the upper end of' `the shaft 4F,the-'upper part of which revolves in bearings in the upper jpart of the frame-work A, and
the lower end of which 'hangs.f1'ee, and has a pin or pivot formed in or attachedto the center ot' its lower end, `to enter asockctin the end of the core G of the mold. lThe core G isznade of the exact vshape and size that the interior fi' the pipe should have.
Ihe lower end of thecore G passes through and lits into a hole` in the base-plate H of the mold. The base-plate H of the mold is secured* in a hole or recess in the platform I, which -ssup'ported upon fthe door or platform ai of the frame-workA, so that the lowerend of the core -Gr may rest upon the said 'floor or platform c'.

The base-plate H is made with an interior shoulder around its cent-ral hole, to form the socket or `recess in one end'of the pipe, .to receive the tip of thelend ot' the 4adjacent length of pipe.
The base-plate H is also formed with anexterior shoulder, to receive the lower end ofthe case J' `of the mold.v
The case J is made of a sheet of sheetmetahhent into acylindrical. form, with Aits edges fitting to each other, and which is held;4 together while the machine is being packed into it by the bands `K,'two or more of vwhich are passed around it, and the ends of which are bent ontwarii-1 asvlshown; in Fhgs: l and 2, to receive the .clamping-screws L, whiclrare swiveled to the one end and, screw into the other end of said bands. upon opposite sides of the case J, as shown in fig. 1, the said projecting ends may serve as handles, for convenience -ijn handling the mold. .By this construc-V tion, when the` material' of which the pipo is formed has set, the core G ispushed out and the screws Lal-e loosened, allowing the bands K to'beremoved and the case J tohe opened ont and removed from the pipe.

The prepared'material is fed into the mold from the hopper N, the rear end ot' which is `hung from the frame A by a jointed 'rod ori-ods, O, and the forward and lowerend ot' which rests upon the platform l, in such a position that the material maypass from the hopper, through a hoppcr-shaped-hole in the central` vpart of said platform, 4into the mold.
The rapidityiof the tlow of the material from the hopper N is regulatedby the slide (2, the ends of which enter and work in grooves in the sides oil the said 'hopper'.
Theends of the slide Q, are split, and their lower parts'are turned a little outward, so as to press against the sides'of the grooves, and thus hold the slide secnrelyinto any position into which it may be adj usted.
