Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 3, ll'll. 1912. serial no. 727,9a3.
To all whom t may concern Be it. known that4 I, MARIE E. BROOKS, a. citi-zen of the United States, residing at. Cedarhurst, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment-Holders, of which the following is a reference being had to the ac- This invention relates to new and useful improvements in condiment holders, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character having'a novel stir-4 ring device arranged therein, whereby salt, pepper and other kindred material may be caked from moisture so that it will notreadily sift throughfthe openings in the top of the receptacle.
`Another object of the invention is to pro;
possess advantages in points of eliiciency is inexpensive to manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construct-ion and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of a condiment holder illustrating the application of my improved stirring device, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view on the line 2"2 of Fig. l.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, l indicates a 4condiment holder having a top 2 threaded upon the upper end thereof which is provided with a plurality of openings 3 through which the contents of the holder may be sifted. Arranged'within the holder 1 is a yoke et at the intermediate portion of which is formed a stem 5 adapted to be arranged within an opening 6 in the .cover 2 and having a finger hold 7 upon the upper end thereof. A washer 8 is arranged between the finger hold 7 and the top of the cover so that the yoke may be easily and readily rotated. The stem 5 of the yoke 4 is loosely mounted within the opening so that the yoke may be pulled upwardly and the top thereof engaged with the top of the receptacle to remove any particles adhering to the top and clogging the openings 3. The lower ends of the yoke 4 are curved inwardly and disposed at right angles to the side portions, as shown at 9,
shown at 12. The inner ends of the spurs',
l1 are bent downwardly out of relation with the body portion thereof so that they are not only curved in opposite directions but are bent downwardly suflicient to engage all of the contents of the holder to thoroughly pulverize the same so that it may be readily sifted through the openings 3 in the top.
It will be readily apparent that my improved stirring device can' be readily applied to any ordinary condiment holder by arranging the stem 5 within one of the openings in the cover and securing the finger hold to the upper end thereof. It will also be apparent that the device may be readily removed for cleansing. From the above it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and durable device whereby the salt, pepper or other kindred material contained within the holder may be readily lpulverized so that it can be easily sifted through the openings 3 in the top. It will alsol be apparent that the device is extremely simple in its construction and can be manufactured at comparatively low cost. l Vhile I have shown and described the preferred form of the invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.` l
What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a holder having a yoke arranged therein, inwardly project-ing curved spurs formed upon the side portions of said yoke and arranged in opposed relation, the ends of said side portions Mbeing curved inwardly and disposed at right an` gles to the side portions, and upwardly curved points formed on the extreme ends of the side portions. v
2. In combination with a holder having a perforated top provided with a centrally arranged opening, of a yoke arranged within the holder, a stern formed integral with the intermediate portion ot the yoke and extending up through the central opening, a inger hold secured to the upper end of the stem whereby the yoke niay be rotated, the' ends of said yoke being lcurved inwardly and upwardly and having their extreme ends pointed, alternately arranged inwardly extending spurs formed integral with the side portions of the yoke and curved in opposite directions.`
3. In combination with a holder havingi a perforated cover provided with a central opening, of a yoke arranged within said holder, a stem formed at its intermediate portion and extending upwardly through the central opening, a finger hold secured to the upper end of the stein whereby the yoke may be rotated, the ends of said yoke being ,curved inwardly and upwardly and the extreme ends thereof pointed, alternately arranged inwardly extending spurs formed upon the s ide portions of said yoke, the ends osaid spurs extending downwardly 'from the body portion thereof and the spurs upon one side of the side portions being curved in opposite directions from the spurs upon the other side portion.
4. In a device of the character deseribed,.
' the combination of a. holder having a yoke arranged therein, a plurality of alternately arranged inwardly projecting curved spurs formed upon the side portions of the yoke and arranged in opposed relation, the ends of said yoke being curved inwardly and upwardly and arranged in longitudinal aline-v ment, and the extreme ends of said yoke being provided with upwardly curved points.
5. ln combination with a holder having a perforated top provided with a centrallyl arranged opening, of a yoke arranged within the holder and having a stern projecting up through the central opening, the ends of said yoke being curved inwardly and upwardly and having their extreme end's pointed and inwardly projecting spurs formed upon the side portions of the yoke and disposed in opposed relation.
6. In combination with aholder having a perforated top provided with' a centrally arranged opening, of a yoke arranged within the holder and having a stem extending up through the opening, the ends of said yoke being curved inwardly and upwardly and arranged in longitudinal alinement, the extreme ends ofsaid yoke being provided with upwardly curved points, and inwardly projecting curved Spurs formed upon the side portions of the yoke and arranged in opposed relation.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. MARIE E. BROOKS. wWitnesses ELIZABETH TREMLETT, L1LLIAN A. DAVIS.
