Letters Patent No. 106,316, flatedAugust 16, 1870.
IMPROVE!) SPRING' BBD-BOTTOM.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same *are- To all whom 'it rmay concern Be it known that I, CHARLES T'. BAADE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Spring Bed-Bot tom; and l doI hereby declare t-hat4 the following is a l'ull, clear, and ,exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had' to the accompanying drawing forming' part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the coristruction and arrangement'of spring bed-bottoms, in which longA wood slats or springs and 4spiral wire .springs areused in combination for the'head and eenter of the bottom, the foot ends of the wood springs being arranged to rest on a wood bolster or crosspiece ofthe frame, and the head ends being bent and suitably shaped to'be sed in.A substitution of the stuffed bolster sometimes used.
Figure 1 is aside elevation of my improved -springi other straps, E, traversing the transverse'pieces B,
above the seats, and tacked thereto, under which the Vbottom @cils ef the springs are forced into theseats,
and from under which they may be readily withdrawn for taking thebottom apart. l
The transverse pieces B of the frame are prevented from rising up out of the boxings bythe long rods F sliding over them, and through' staples G on the bars A.`
. The wood springs I, ranging lengthwise of the bed,
rest at the' head end and at suitable intermediate parts toward the other end onthese springs O, which are connected to them by. short straps, H, inthe same manner that they are connected to the bars B,
but no sockets are made in them for the springs.
The foot ends of the springs I rest on the transverse bar K, and have slots receiving staples L in the said bar up through them, so that a conlining rod, M, may be passed through them about the springs.
This bar K is contined between blocks, N, on the bars A', by a pin at each end.
The springs I'are bent upward at :the head end, as clearly shown in fr. 1, so as to elevate that end of the'bed sufficiently to dispensewith the stuffed bol sters sometimes used.
Near the head ends the springs'are connected .Itogether by a wide strap, P, and a narrow one, Q, the latter looping over/the springs, and the two'being vwoven together by the passage of the narrow one through slots iu the other, and the ends are brought down to the rails A, and hitched theretoso` as to prevent undue lateral motion ot' the springs.
It will be observed that these arrangements arel such that all the parts c an be readily put together or taken apart',` as may be required in setting the bed-- bottoms up for use, or taking them down for moving or storage. Y
` Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure `by Letters i Patent- The combination of frame A B, spiral springs C, straps E H P Q, wood springs I, transverse bar K, blocks N, when said parts are constructed and arranged, with respect to each other, in the manner set forth.
The above specicatiolrof my invention signed by me this 6th day of January, 1870.
OHAS. T. BAADE.
