Patented May 27,1913.
Application filed April 5, 1911. Serial No. 619,053.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED HARLAN, citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Locks, of'which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in spring locks and the object is to provide a simple, effectual and durable spring lock especially adaptable for mail boxes.
WVith the above and other objects in View I have invented the lock illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im proved lock, Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view thereof with the casing plate removed. Fig. 3 is an elevational view showing the bolt in an unlocked position. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line AA of Fig. 1 showing a key operating the bolt.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several. views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a lockconsisting of a casing 2, a bolt 3 and a spring 4. The bolt 3 is provided with an-enlarged head 5 having a Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents. T
bowed centerward to abut the portion 12 of the head 5 and holds the end 13 of the bolt 3 normally in a locked position. i
'The key 7 is adapted to enter the slot 14 in the plate 15 seat over the post 16 which will hold the key in proper place, and by rotating same force the bolt inward, the portion 12 of the lock head 5 pressing the spring 4 out of normal position as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 as long as it remains in the lock in the position shown .in Figs. 3 and 4, however, as soon as the key is removed from the lock the spring 4 will force the bolt out again into a locking position where it will remain normally.
Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
A look consisting of a casing, a slidable bolt having an enlarged head and a bowed ALFRED HARLAN.
