Description

parts.
A is Ythe yoke for ttntrd @tates or HOUSTON, TEX-As.
Letters Patent N 106,229, dated August 9, 1870, n
IMPROVEMENT :IIN COTTON" AND- HAY-PRESSES.`
The Schedule referred to in thse Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom fit may concern: f
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. S'rorrLn, of Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cotton and Hay-Presses; and I do hereby declare .that the following is .ft-full, clear, and exact descripience in lling the case.
It also consists incoustructing the yoke in two s parts, and arranging them so as to admit of applying a nut with jauges above and below the yoke, permanently connected. to it, or formed on it; and
It also consists in au arrangement ofthe pivot-bolt of the yoke, aud-the holding-link for the free end, for distributing the strain upon the case in a way to preventinj'hry to the same. h
Figure 1 represents a plan view of my improved Figure 2 represents a transverse sectional elevation ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding supporting ,the screw-tlneaded nut B, for the Vscrew U, by which the follower E is worked back and forth in the case D. This yoke is pivoted atlF .to a pivot-bolt, G,'1'un ning down through the upper and lower cross-beams ofthe case; the other end H of the yoke is free to turn on the pivot for swinging away from the end' of the case, to permit ready access to it, as shown in tig.
1 and a` curved bur or track, K, is provided for it to move upon.
This end H projects in a suitable way to receive the eye L of a link-bar, M, pivoted at N to the lower part of the case, to hold the yoke whenin position for forcing down or raising up the screw.,
This yoke is made ot'tw parts joined together longitudinally and vertically on the line O, and suitably bolted together, so as to clamp around the nut between the.collars I and Q, which are formed in vpermanent connection withthe nut, which is necessary to enable them to withstand the great pressure thereon.
The collar P is notched, -and a hand-pawl, R, is arranged on the yoke and in connection with the notches, in a way to be held in engagement with them to prevent the follower from turning when swinging out or in. so that, when brought back to be screwed down, it will be in the right position.
By reason of the connection of the rod G and the link M with the lower cross-beams of the case, they strain is so distributed thereon that it will bear ou the l same to better advantage, especially when the said lower beams are connected by other rods at the corners of the frame with the bed S, which I propose to do in practice.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The pivoted swinging yoke A, combined with track K, pivoted link-bar M, and nut B, as and for the purpose described. p
2.'.The yoke A, formed in two sections, combined with nut B, and ratchet-collar P, and plain collar O,
formed solid, as described, and for the purpose speci-
