This invention relates to bobbin .magazines as, for instance. those provided for portable spinning-frame dotiers, and refers particularly to means for facilitating the operation of loading such magazines with bobbins.

The form of magazineherein shown by way oteXample consists of vertical walls a Z) (Z, a removable bottom-closure com prising two cross wires 6, and vertical partitions f 9 adapted to confine the contained bobbins in tiers, the upper end of the magazine being open. It will be seen that the partitions g divide the magazine into coinpartments each'o'f sutlicient width to contain a single bobbin.

T rat embodiment of the invention which is herein illustrated comprises a supporting frame 1 and horizontal table 2 bounded at its side and rear by walls 3. Means is provided for supporting a magazine in such relation. to the table that bobbins piled upon' the table may be conveniently placed in proper order in the magazine. In the construction herein shown, there is formed in the table 2 an opening 4 adapted. to receive a magazine, and means is provided below the table "for supporting the magazine with its open upper end substantially flush with the surface of the table. Said supporting means may consist, as herein shown, of a platform 5 rigidly secured in the frame 1 in a suitable manner.

Each of the bobbin compartments being of considerable height, it will be understood that it a bobbin were placed in the u rper end of a compartment and permitted to rop to the bottom of the magazine, said bobbin might turn in tailing and fail to assume a horizontal position, or might be laterally displaced out of its proper compartment. I therefore provide means for reducing the fall of the bobbins to such an extent that, they cannot become disarranged. This means, in the present embodiment, comprises bobbinsupporting members 6, each of suiticient width to properly supporta bobbin, of suitable thickness for insertion into a bobbin compartment, and of such height as to reduce the fall of the bobbin in its coinpartment to the desired extent. Each member 6 is slotted as at 7 to pass. the wires 6. The members (3 are secured together at their lower ends in spaced relation, in any suitable manner, as by being formed integral with a base 8. The platform 5- has .an opening-9 therein through which the members 6 extend. In order that the members (3 may recedc downwardly as bobbins are" loaded into the magazine, I provide suitable means, as, for example, a carrier 10 on which the group of members 6 is located, said carrier being supported for vertical movement by means of flexible connections 11 extending over sheaves 12 attached to the lower side of the table 2, said connections bearing counterweights 13. The carrier 10 is guided in its vertical movements by rods 14 fixed to the'carrier and extend, ing slidably through brackets 15 fixed to the platform 5 and through openings 16 in said platform. Downward movement of the carrier 10 may be limited in .any suitable way, as by the engagement ofprojections 17 on the rods 14 with the upper brackets 15, upward movement being limited by contact of the carder with the lower brackets 15. In the present instance the carrier 10 is slightly -overbalanced so that it tends to rise. Upon the lower side of the carrier is fixed a loop 18 which may be engaged by the foot of the operator to depress or assist in demessing the carrier as the loading progresses. In use, a quantity of bobbins is placed upon the table 2 and an empty magazine inserted through the opening 1 until it rests upon the platform 5, the members 6 extending upwardly in the compartments of the magazine to a point near the top theretically movable within a magazine placed of. .Bobbins are thenitaken from the table by the operator and placed in the compartments, the members fi serving as an adjust,

able false bottom on which the bobbins rest as the growing mass of bobbins in the magazine settles. When the magazine is fully loaded, the members 6 have descended until their upper ends are substantially flush with the wires' e. It will be seen that the members 6 permit of loading bobbins into the relatively deep magazine in proper order. When the magazine is filled it is lifted out of the opening 4, recesses 4 be- "in formed in the sides of the opening in or er to enable the operator to grasp the upper end of the magazine.

While the magazine herein illustrated is adapted to contain warp bobbins, it will be understood that the apparatus may be adapted to load filling bobbins by making. the members 6 of suitable dimensions to enter the compartments of a filling-bobbin magazine.

1. An apparatus for, facilitating the loading of bobbin magazines comprising a sup port fora bobbin magazine, and a false bot-' tom for a'magazine placed on said support,- said bottom being-movable toward and away from theinlet end of the magazine.

An apparatus for facilitating the load ing of bobbin magazines comprising a support for-a bobbin magazine having a plurality of compartments therein, a plurality of bobbin-supporting members insertible into the magazine through the end opposite its inlet end, eachof said "members being adapted to enter one of said compartments, and means for supporting said plurality of members for-movement toward and away from the inlet end of the magazine.

An apparatus for facilitating the loading of bonnin magazines comprising a support-- for a bobbin.1nagazine, a carrier, guide sheaves, flexible connections attached at one end to said carrier and extending over said sheaves, weights attached to the other ends of said connections, and bobbin-supporting means mounted on said carrier-and adapted to .support bobbins placed in a magazine set upon said support.

An apparatus for facilitating the loading ofbobbin magazines comprising a table having an opening therein to receive a bob- .bin magazine, and a support below said opening to. support the magazine with its inlet-end substantiallyfiush with the table, a carrier below said support, means for supporting said carrier for vertical movement, and bobbin-supporting means mounted on said carrier and adapted? to enter the lower end of. a magazine set upon said support.

7. An apparatus for facilitating the load ing of bobbin magazines comprising a table having a bobbin-supporting space and an opening in front of said space to receive a bobbin magazine,a support below said opening to support the magazine with its inlet end substantially flush with the table, and bobbin-supporting means vertically movable into and out of a magazine set upon. said support.

8. An apparatus for facilitating the loading of bobbin magazines comprising a support for a bobbin magazine, said support having an opening therein, a carrier below said support and movable vertically toward and away from said support, an d bobbin supporting means on said carrier adapted to pass through said opening and enter the magazine.

9. An apparatus for facilitating the load-' ing of bobbin magazines comprising a su3- port upon which a bobbin magazine may e removably set, and means movable lengthwise of the magazine, and into and out of the latter, for temporarily supporting bobbins in the magazine. I
