ADVERTISING-SIGN.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN J. Bnonnnrcn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsboro and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Advertising-Signs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to signs especially adapted to be applied to trees, posts, poles and the like.

The object of the invention is to provide a sign of simple structure which may be easily and quickly applied to the supporting object and which when in position will effectually hold the face or sight of the sign in a plane surface in order that it may be easily and conveniently observed and read.

With the above object in view thesign comprises a strip of material upon the obverse face of which is provided the legend or other advertising matter. The ends of the strip are folded back upon the face portion in close proximity to the same but there is space left between the inner edges of the said folded portions. From the inner edges of the said portions the ends of the strip are folded outwardly and away from each other. Securing devices are passed through the ends and into the support for the sign and securing devices are passed through the intermediate portion of the strip and through the space between the inner edges of the folds thereof and also enter the supporting object.

In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a sign attached to a supporting pole. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the pole showing an edge view of the sign post before the intermediate portion thereof is secured to the pole. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the sign and pole showing the relative positions of the parts of sign when they are finally secured to the pole.

As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the sign consists of a strip having a face or sight 1. Upon this face or sight is printed or otherwise applied the legend or advertising matter as indicated at 2. At the ends of the face 1 the strip is folded back upon itself as at 3. The inner edges of the said folded portions extend well in toward the intermediate portion of the face 1, but being spaced Specification of Letters Patent.

from each other. The folded portions 3 are adapted to lie flat against the rear side of the face 1 when the parts are secured in osition as illustrated in Fig. 3 and therefore the folds 3 brace the face 1 and tend to hold the same in a plane. At the inner edges of the folded portions 3 the material of the strip is folded in opposite directions constituting ends 1.

After the sign has been formed as above described it is secured to a post, pole or other support indicated at 5 by passmg securing devices 6 through the end portions 1 into the said support. The parts are then in the positions as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing. Securing devices 7 are then passed through the intermediate portion of the face 1 and through the space between the inner edges of the folded portions 3 whereby the face 1 is drawn toward the support 5 and in close proximity with the folded portions 3 as best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. Therefore when the parts are secured as just above stated the face 1 is held in a plane and its end portions are braced by the folded portions 3. Thus it will be seen that a sign of simple structure is provided and one that is effectually secured when placed in position, the parts being so arranged that the sign will not become distorted or out of position under ordinary conditions of weather or temperature.

\Vhat I claim as new, is

A sign comprising a strip the end portions of which are folded back upon the face portion in close proximity to the same with its end portions folded over and disposed away from each other there being a space between the inner edges of the second mentioned folds, securing devices passing through the ends of the strip and securing devices passing through the intermediate portion of the strip and passing through the space between the inner edges of the second mentioned folds.
