" RICHARD, M. ADILL, ou Monethrowny INDIANA.
I Y etters Patent No. 1 06,037, dated August 2, 1870. Y y
` "IMPRVE'D vTimer:--zaolmzin :'QR HeRNEss.
` l The lSchecrxlle referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
` Be it; known that I, RICHARD M. DILL, of Morgantown, in the lcounty of Morgan and State of Indiana, have invented van `Improved Buekle;"and I do yhereby declare that `the following is a full, clear, and `exact description` thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and tothe letters 'of 4reference marked thereon. v n i y The nature oftheim'ention consists in its onstruetion of a buckle, in such-a way that it will serve both `as a buckle,a loog for the tug, and a loop in".\vl1ieh to 'fa-sten the belly-band; saidbuekle tobemade of iron rial. y
" Toenable others skilled in the art to make and use my said invention, Iproceed to describe it `more fully as follows:
A BO, of the accompanying drawing, is afperspec'- `or brass, or any other suitable and Convenient matetive `view of saidbuekle.
EF is the tongue. A, the `end plateon which the tongue rests. y GH, the cross-piece, on which the tongue is fast-y ened." V i v i 4 f `K, theloop, tln'onghfwhich thestrap is slipped after beingbuokled.
` L, the loop in which the belly-band is fastened B C D, tire loopthrough which the tug passes. ".'lhe whole frame of the buckle is out outbf a plain piece of sheet metal, and` thenfhent up in the form represented in the drawing.
'ro use my said buckle, if. is buckled at the breeching orthe pad, in snellav position that the tug' will pass' through it conveniently, thereby dispensing with a common leather loop. Ii it be fastened tothe pad, the belly-band is attached to it by the loop L, which Iwill be found a very great improvelnenq over the devices now in general use. f Y
buckle-for the back or" saddle-band, the belly-band, and a supporter-for `the trace or tng-strap, andiscomposed of a single plate -bent into the form shown, into the buckle A--of' which the back or saddle-ban'dfis secured, andin the loop L the belly-baud,vwhile the trace or tug-strap passes through and issnpported by theoblong loop D, in suoli manner as toallow it to move back and forth to aceolnmodateitself tothe motion ofmthe whiletree and the shoulders ofthe horse, and also serves as a means for holding up thetraces when the horse is unhitched, thusavoiding the neces` sity of having to tie them up, and to prevent the traces from rubbing against and wearing the hair from the horses sides.
-Havingdescribed my invention,
I claim- A bucklefor the back or saddleband, consisting of a single plate bent and formed as described, and adapted also as a loop, D, for the tug or trace, and a loop, L, for the belly-band, as herein shown-and 'deseribed. l
. In testimony that I claim the foregoing specification,lI have hereunto setmy hand this 19th day of Jannary,1869. y l
' RICHARD M. DI-LL.
