lhc nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bung for barrels, as will be hereinafter' `fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled inthe art to which luy invention appertains to make and useftlle same, l will now proceed to` describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- `l `igure1lis a vertical section ;y

`instead of being circular as the outside, is elongated or elliptic, asshown in 'iig'..

The lower edge of the ring A is provided with illclilled projections, au. y B representsthe bung, provided at its upper end 4'with the cap C, on the under side of which is suitable v packing, t', all around the bung.

`The-lower end of the bnllg is elongated or elliptic, to correspond with tlleopeningin the ring A; but a short distance above said lower edge 'it is cutout so as toforln the inclined planes l b. llese inclilled planes, with tlle'inclined projections a. a on the ring t A, act as wedges to tighten the bung.

The ring A being screwed into lthe bung-hole of the barrel, the bung B is insertedthroughthe same. By now turning the bung olle-halt` around,'the inclined planes b Il and inclined projections a come in con. tact so 'as to wedge the cap G with its packing itightl y down upon thebarrel. j

InV the same manner the bung is readily removed by merely giving it a halt' turn ill the opposite direction.

The projections c a may be placed on the inside of the ring- A, instcadof on the lower edgc,il1 which case the inclined planes b I1 must b e formed higher up on the bung 15,01' the rillg A luade wider, so as to act vin the salue manner as above described.

Having thus fully described lny invention, NVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The screwring A, provided with an elongated or elliptic opening, alld with inclined projections, a a, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.v

3. The combination of the ring A, having inclined projections a u, bung B, having. inclilled planes b b, and packing i, all constructed and arranged substantially as alld for the purposes herein set forth.-
