Be it known `that we, Fnasors M; BacHMAN and SAMUEL RIOKER, of 1 `redericksburg, in the county of Lebanon, aud State of Pennsylvania,have invented a new and useful Improvement in Faucets; and we do hereby declare that the following 'is a full, clear, and

Our invention hasfor itsobject to furnish an improved faucet, which shall be so constructed that it will entirely prevent leakage through it, and will enable the cask to be easily and quickly tapped without the loss of yany of the liquid, however great mayi be its pressure; and y 1t. consists in the construction and combination of various parts of the faucet, as hereinafter more fully described.
The inner or stop-faucet is made in two parts, the tube or case A and theplug or valve B.
The plug or valve Bis iitted or ground into the interior of the tube A, is made hollow, and has one for more holes formed through the side of the inner end, corresponding in number, size, and position with a similar set of holes formed through the upper side ot' the inner part of the tube A.
The plug or valve B is secured in place in the tube A by a nut, C, screwed upon its inner end, a washer, D, being interposed betweeuthe said nut and the end of the tube A, as shown in tig. l. l
lhe outer part of the tube A is enlarged, to leave a space between it and the outer part of the hollow plug or valve B, to receive the tubular nut, by meansoi' which the tapping-faucet is secured to the stopfancet.
r1`he enlarged part of the tube A has a screw-thread formed upon its outer surface, to enable itto be screwed i'uto the. cask, andanother screw-thread cut upon its inner surface, to receive the screw-thread of the plateor cap E, to close the outer end ofthe stopfaucet A B when the tapping-faucet is detached.
The outer edge of the auge or face-plate c of the tube A is made polygonal in form, for convenience in applying a wrench to screw the said stop-faucet A B into the cask.
F is the tapping-faucet, which is similar to an ordinary faucet, except that it has a tubular nut, H, placed upon it, and a collar, G, formed upon or at-v tached to it, against which a shoulder, formed upon the interior of the tubular nutv H, rests, to securely hohl the tapping-faucet in place in the stop-faucet.-
The tubular nut H has a screw-thread, formed upon the inner surface of its forward part, to screw into a screw-thread formed upon the outer surface of the outer end of the hollow plug B.

One side of the-forward end of the tapping-faucet VFis flattened to fit upon-a flattened part of the in-` ner surface of the hollow plug B, said flattened parts being so arranged that the holes in the forward part of the hollow plug B may correspond with the holes in the tube A, when the faucet F is in' proper position for drawing the liquid; that is 'to say, when it is right side up.
The stop-faucet A B is designed to be permanently attached to the cask.
When the rask is to be tappedV the screw-plate .or cap E is screwed off, the tapping-faucet -is placed in the hollow plug B bottom side up, and is secured in place by the tubular nut H. The tapping-laucet F is then turned right side up, which opens the communication between the interior of the cask and the interior of the faucet, so that the liquid may be drawn from the cask by operating the plug I of the faucetF in the ordinary manner.
The tapping-faucet may at any time be removed by reversing the above-described operation.
