magnifying device, particularly adaptable for use 1n connection with razorsand j ewels' for detecting imperfections thereon.
VThelinvention embodies, among other features, a supporting member particularly adapted to support a razor blade within the eld of a magnifying glass, whereby, upon gazing through the glass, any discrepancies in the-cutting edge of the razor'blade' can be readily-detected, the device being also adapted for use in examining jewels for the purpose of finding imperfections thereon prior to grinding or cutting the jewels or setting the same in an artistic frame.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this`speciication in which similar characters of eference denote corresponding parts in a' `the views, and in which:

Referring more particularly to the views, use is made of a main bar (10 provided on one side thereof with a longitudinally extending dove-tail flange l1, a bearing plate 12` being secured to the main bar 10 at a central portion thereof and having mounted to slide therein a vertically extending holder 13, terminating at the lower end in a handle 14 and provided at the upper end with a reduced portion 15, on which is mounted' a collar 16 provided with a horizontally extending shank 17 connected to a circular frame 18 in which is mounted a magnifying glass 19, a thumb screw 2O being mounted to extend through the bearing plate 12 to engage the .holder 13 for the purpose of securing the holder inrigid position relatively tothe-main bar 10.
A bracket 21 comprising a head 22 provided with a dove-tail slot 23 is 'mounted to slide horizontally on the main lbar 10, the dove-tail flange' llyof the main bar being received in the dove-tail slot 23 of the head 22 of the bracket, a bar 24 being extended horizontally from the head 22 and then bent vertically to form an upright 25, the bar being then bent horizontally and laterally and having mounted to swing on the free end thereof a clamping member 26 comprising a stationary gripping tooth 27 having mounted to extend vertically therefrom a threaded pin 28 on which is mounted to slide a gripping tooth 29, a thumb screw 30 being threadedly mounted on the pin 28 and adapted to engage the movable gripping tooth 29 to clamp an article between thestationary gripping tooth 27 and the movable gripping tooth 29, the mentioned gripping teeth being adapted to extend toward the main bar and arranged so that when the bracket 21 is slid on the main bar 10, the' article held between the gripping teeth' l27 and 29 can be brought withinthe eld of the magnifying glass 19, adjust-ably mount.

- As mentioned above, my device is particularly adapted for use in connection with razors for the purpose of determining any imperfections in the cutting edges "thereof and in the use of my device the razor blade is securely clamped between the gripping tooth 27 and the gripping tooth 29, after which the bracket 21 is advanced alon the main bar 10 until the'cutting edge o? the razor blade will lie within the plane of the magnifying glass 19 and immediately beneath the Same, the holder 13 being adjustable on the main bar 10 for the purpose of obtaining a proper focus of the magnifying glass so that when the operator gazesxthrough` the magnifying glass from above, the cutting edge of the razor blade willy be clearly outlined beneath thema ifying glass, in an enlarged form, thus c early disclosing any imperfections or rag edness in the cutting edge of the blade. y device is also adapted for use in examining jewels for the purpose of determining any imperfections therein and it will be readily understood that instead of clamping the jewel between the gripping tooth 27 and the gripping tooth 29, *the jewel can be placed upon a suitable plate having an edge thereof securely clamped between the gripping teeth 27 andV a lmanner 'that the clamping Vmember will Y normally bind and remain in stationary position regardless of the angle to which the clamping member is swung.

In a device 'of the class described, the combination with a main bar, of a bearing plate thereon, a holder mounted to slide on the said bearing plate, the said holder ter- `ininat-ing at one end in a handle and at the other end in a reduced portion, a thumb screw mounted to extend through the said bearing plate and engage the said holder to retain it in ri 'd position relatively to the main bar, a co lar mounted on the reduced portion of the said holder, a shank formed with the said collar, a frame extended from Lacasse the said shank, a magnifying glass mounted in the said frame, a dove-tail flange formed longitudinally on the said main bar, a

In a device of the class described, the combination with a main bar, of a holder adjustably mounted thereon, a magnifying glass mounted on the said holder, a bracket mounted to slide on the said main bar, and a clamping bar mounted on the said bracket and .movable therewith to lie within the field of view of the said magnifying glass.
