SAMUEL BERNSTEIN AND CHARLES IBERNSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHIELD FOR CHILDRENS BLOUSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22, 1913.
full, clear, and exact description.
The principal object which the present i11- vention has in view is to provide a shield formed of two sections, by the successive removal of which the throat of the wearer may be exposed to different degrees.
One embodiment of the present invention V is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like char acters of reference denote corresponding part-s in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a pictorial View of a folded blouse, the same being provided with a full shield constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; F ig. 2 is a similar view, showing the blouse as provided with a part shield constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views on an enlarged scale showing in separated relation the two sections which united form the complete shield.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the shield is employed for closing the throat opening in blouses having what is known as a sailor collar, and may be adapted to blouses of a diiferent make but having the same low opening collar effect. The opening of the collars of this construction is V-shaped', and it is desired to at times expose the upper portion of the opening and the entire neck of the wearer Without exposing the breast of the wearer. At other times it becomes desirable to expose the breast as well as the neck. It is to accommodate this double use that we have provided the upper section A and the lower section B.
The upper section is shaped to form cape portions 9, 9 which extend over the shoulders behind the neck of the wearer. The rear extensions of the cape portions 9 are parted, as seen best in Fig. 3 of the drawings, being normally secured on the blouse by a button 10 which is attached to the blouse and is engaged by the buttonholes 11 with which the cape portions are provided. The button 10, when thus used, secures in closed position the collar 12 which is erected upon and forms an integral part of the upper section A. The lower and exposed edge of the upper shield is shaped to give a finished appearance, preferably having a pendent point 13. The upper section A is secured to the lower section B by engaging the buttons 14.- and the lower section by means of the buttonholes 15 formed in the upper section. A collar button or stud of usual construction is inserted through the eyeholes 16, 16 in both sections which unites the two sections A and B at the center portion thereof to avoid bulging and separation at this point. When the shield sections are thus united they are secured to the blouse by engaging the button 10 with the buttonholes 11, and the buttons 17 which are provided on the blouse with the buttonholes 18 formed on the upper corners of the lower section B.
In the normal operation of dressing 2. child with a blouse of the character described the united shield is opened at the throat by releasing one side of the cape portion 9 and one of the buttons on the same flap side as the released cape portion 9. This permits the united shield sections A and B to be thrown to one side for the removal of the blouse. This handling of the shield is in all respects similar to what would transpire if the shield sections were integrally instead of separably united.
When it is desired to remove the shield section A for the comfort of the child this is accomplished by releasing the button 10 and the buttons 1-1, 14. The shield section A may then be removed from the blouse, leaving the shield section B in place. If it is desired to remove the shield section B this is then accomplished by releasing the en- 9 gagement of the buttonholes 18 of the buttons 17 It will be seen that not alone may this double sectioned shield be employed for the comfort of the child, but by varying the design and color of either of the shield sections a varied and pleasing effect may be imparted to the blouse at a nominal cost.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a blouse having a low-reaching wide spreading breast opening, a filling shield formed of two exposed sections each of said sections being visible and covering distinct vertical portions of said opening; and means for independently fastening the said sections to said blouse.
2. In a blouse having a low-reaching Widespreading breast opening, a filling section having a neck collar and a cape pendent therefrom, said cape arranged to cover the upper portion only of said opening; and a section for filling the lower portion only of said opening, said sections being removably attached each to the other.
3. A blouse, having a relatively low-reaching throat opening and a removable shield comprising an upper and a lower section; means to connect said shield upon said 15 blouse; and means connecting the sections of said shield.
In testimony whereof We have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
