Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22, 1913.
Application med February 21, 1912. serial No. 7a'154.
i I do declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, lsuch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relatesto improvements in cuff fasteners and more particularly to those made of a single piece of metal andfyield-l ing throughout its .entire structure.
One object of the invention is therefore in the provision of a simple, practical andv eflicient device of the character described whereby the construction of the same is of such a nature that the usual button holes of the cuff of a garment are dispensed with.
Another object of the invention resides in the particular formation of the device whereby the inner and4 outer-surfaces of the cuff adjacent to the edges 'thereof are properly shaped, connected 'and held in proper alinement, the outer enlarged rounded edges of said culfbeing snugly received and yieldingly engaged, whereby the fastener can be conveniently adjusted along the edges of the cuff without removal therefrom.l
Further and important features of' the invention reside in the particular construction and relative formation of thefastener, as hereinafter described and claimed, whereby the results referred to are successfully carried out.
' In the drawings z-Figure 1 is a perspective of the complete invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the invention as applied to a cuff; Fig. V3 is a side elevation of the fastener applied.
The fastener is composed of a single iece slight angle to the jaws 4, to form the cuff receiving loops 6, and the ends of said jaw are projected beyond the roundedportion 2 for a purpose hereinafter described. As
clearly shown the outer surfaces of the jaws 7 are provided with a plurality of adjacent depressions 8 forming corresponding projections on :the inner faces of said jaws, the latter being located near t-he opposite straight edges of the said jaws 7 and adapted to engagewith the outer surfaces of the cuif adjacent to the edges thereofto be connected and formed.
An important feature'- ofthe invention is in the particular formation of the fastener which yieldingly connects the inner and outer jaws 4 and 7 respectively the same-- being enlarged andv rounded as shown at 9 whereby the fastener 'is rendered suiiiciently yielding and the edges ofthe cuff snugly confined therein permitting the fastener to be adjustable along 'the edges ofthe cuff without removing the fastener therefrom.
It will thus be seen that by extending the ends of the outer jaws.7 beyond the centrally disposed convex portion 2, and by flaring the said jaws' from the inner converging members 4, the edges of the cuff can be readily inserted between the yielding clamping jaws and when the fastener is properly positioned and attachedto the cuff the same cannot be accidentally released. It
will further be noted that bythe construction of the fastener the edges of they cuff are yieldingly connected and will compensate for any irregularities of the-same when in use therefore assisting in preserving the original and'desirable format-ion of the cuff when applied. 4 Further it Willbe noted that a handkerchief, glove or other. similar article can be readily inserted between and temporarily held by the rounded connected ends 9 of the fastener, which feature of the invention will be greatly appreciated.
What I claim is A Vcuff fastener comprising a flat stri of springv metal bent at two portions o its lengthlto provide a plurality of loo s, each of the loops having extended there rom an inclined jaw, said jaws connected together at their terminals. opposite the loops with a concave-convex yielding portion, the other ends of the loops having also Aextending therefrom inclined yielding jaws in substantial -parallelism with the first jaws, said second named jaws havingv a longitudinal l.
