Application ledey 29, 12312. Serial No. 700,36.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. Hennie, #L .Qitlu uf .the United States,- residing Leniott, in the county of Jclfson and State' of Ioivu, have invented certain nevi"1 useful Improvements in lVell-Rod Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to Well-rodhool s with those especially Aused for the removing of broken Well rods from Wells and the object is to provide a rod which may be adapted to readily grasp and hold the pump rod when it is being removed from the well, and .it` consists mainly in. peculiarly shaped hook which is edepted'to be turned to grasp the pump rod in' any position that it may .eveessiuned in the Well.
The following specification with the drawings accompanying the seine and form 'ing a part hereol2 will describe and show how l construct end operare the hook to accomplish my objects.
Figure l is e perspective View of my device. Fig. 2 is e perspective view of the the pomp rod has been grasped and in the loop with the Well out away. F 3 is n side vienl of the device having grasped the pump rod and in, n. position' to remove the pump rod from ti e Well. 1 Fig. 4 is a perspective lviewashowing position that the broken pump 'rod would take in the Well and the manner' in which the device will gra-sp the y Like characters of reference denote corre spondingnprlrts in esuli of the figures.
Referring to the drawings A represents my devi-ce, which is formed of a. ber of metal F 4which serves es a handle nearly square in shape. The top ci the handle is provided with e coupling C whereby 1t 1s coupled to en extension rod D.V rlhe lower end of the bsris bent at nearlyv right angles at E end then into a loo G, then nearly parallel with the bar F and terminating et the top in a hook H. The grasping .member l of the hook, slants outwardly a trifle from the loop G at thebase to the top, making thefts erge-,between the handle and the hook e tri' le wider at l than at the base L.
'lhe hook proper is formed by bending the upper portion of the-rnember I in a diagonal or quarter-ing direction to the perpendicular plone of the member l, then on e curve and ending with the point slightly turned toward the handle', making the bent nose or hook end e; higher plane than the the hoo ...and
.readily drawn out of the herdle set iu loop or rod elnbreeing portion end 'on e verneeextension of the memberl. By means of this eculierehepe of the member l and- Y H' the broken pump rod may be eesily. grasped by turning the handle F bringing the portion l with the hook round underneath the slanting pump rod as shown in Fig. 4 and alittle further turn will bring it around to' the position shown in Fig. 2 end then as it is lifted the coupling R will be caught in the loop G end then can be of the Well.
` Having now described my invention what I clainris,
l. In e device of thechamcter descrlbed, on operating' handle, a loop at the lower end or' the handle, e grasping member integral with the loop and in substantially the sertie plane es the handle and a hook at the top of the gras' ing member directed away from the loop e apted to be turned to grasp end guide e Well rod into the loop While Within" the Well. 2. ln e device or' the oheracterfdescribed, un operating handle, o loop at the lower end e plane substantially et right angl .is to the longitudinal plane' ofV the handle, ande grasping' member integral with the loop in substantiallyl right angles to the loop end provided with e hookin e higher plane thanthe loop and in a vertical extension directed away from the loop and adapt-ed to be turned to grasp the. Well rod Within ihe Well when forced into the loop. v
3. ln a device of the cheraeter described, an operating handle provided with ucolr.
pling et olg'e end, e loop integral with the handle en set in a, plane at substantially right angles to the longitudinal plane of the handle, e; grasping member integral with the loop yund set in e plane substantially parallel with thepla-ne of the handle and at right angles to the plane of t y loop, and e hook away from the loop.
4. In a device of the character described, a handles loop formed integre] with the handle and set in a plane substantially at right angles tothe. longitudinnlfpleneof the handle, a 'grasping member integral with the loop to the plane of the loop, and a hook etthe top` ot the grasping. member directed away from the loop and bent or 1n e quertering diagonal direetlon to Athe perpendicular et the top of the membejfand directed..
and set in substantially right `angles lane of the gras ing member and in e bent et an angle to the longtudinel'plene of igher plane than t e plane of the lQop. the grasping llennbel-Y and the plane of the 5. A well-rod hook formed of e single loop. rigid piece, having a handle, a loo and a In testimony whereof, l ax my signature 5 grasping member, the loop being etween in the presence o two witnesses.
the handle and grasping-member and at subv stantially right angles to the longitudinal WILIM P HERB'G plane of the handle and the grasping mem- Witnesses: ber', and a hook at the top of the grnspn M. M. CAM, 10 member directed away from the loop an R. Hummm.
