IRA SMITHLOF GRAYSLAKE, ILLINOIS.
LANTERN-STAND PLATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
1912., Serial No; 700,040.1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Grayslake, county of Lake, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in: Lantern-Stand Plates, of which the following is a speci-,
fication. y j a a This invention relates to new: anduseful improvements in lanterna stand plates, and is a divisional application of the application for Letters Patent fortfoot warmers filed Marchlst, 1912, Serial No. 680,857.
The object of this invention is to construct a lantern stand plate, and is designed to provide a means whereby an ordinary lantern may be retained in a vertical :position in such a mannerthat the possibility of the same becoming overturned is de:
creased.
With the above and other objects in View,
this invention consists in:the construction,
combination and arrangement of parts, all
as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying; drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentaryside elevation of the base of a lantern, illustrating, the stand plate formingthe subject matter of the present invention attached thereto, Fig.
2 is a horizontal section taken along line 22 of Fig. 1.
Reference being had more particularly to the drawings, 10 indicates a lantern of any suitable construction,provided with the off- 15 which is adapted to engage one side of the base 11 of thelantern 10.
Diametrically arranged to the late 13 1s a wire clamping member providec with the spring clamping jaws 16, which are adapted to engage the body of the well of the lantern and which are offset upwardly, as at 17 to bear upon the upper surface of the offset base 11 of said lantern. The outer terminals of the jaws 16 are provided with the extens ons 18 which rest in spaced parallel relation, forming the guiding slot 19. The ,en- 1 1 tinuous section of spring wire re-bent as heretofore described, having the outer:ter-
tire clamp construction is formed of a conminal 20 of the extensions curved upwardly to form a finger tion between the sides of the clampingmembelt;
The guidingslot 19 formed between the extensions 18,engages the alined stud bolts 1 21 whichproject upwardly from the plate 12, as illustrated. The s'tud bolts 21 are her may be adjusted to, and secured in, any desired position to clamp the base 11 of the lantern,,as illustrated in the drawings.
From the foregoing construction it willi be clearly seen that the base 11 of the lantern 10 is placed uncle-Ir the flange 15 of the plate a 13, after which the clamping jaws 16 are moved to embrace the same, as illustrated nuts 22.,
Having described my invention, what 1,
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s:
1. The combination with a plate; of 1&1
concentrically curved plate secured thereto Patented Apr, 15,1913. Original application filed March 1, 11912, Serial No. 680,857. Divided and this application filed May, 27,
iece and also the connec- 1 provided with the wing nuts 22, which provide a means whereby the clamping memin Fig. 1, saidjaws being retained in this 1 position by the clamping action of the wing 3 provided with an upwardly extending u flange; a clamping member arranged opposite to said curved plate formed of a continuous section of wire having the free'terminals thereof constituting clamping :arms and the intermediate section re-bent ar ranged inspaced parallel relation to form a radial guiding slot; stud bolts carried by said plate and extending through said slot;
and wing, nuts operating upon said studi bolts forretaining said clamping member in ad usted posltlon.
2. The combination with a plate; of 1a clamping member mounted for reciproca tion thereoni comprising a continuous sec-t tion of wire re-bcnt to form an attaching section arranged medially between theaterminals of said'wire and clamping arms odset upwardly and divergent at the terminals 1 2 y V 1,o59,s21
thereof; stud 'bolts carried by said plate name to this specification in the presence of and projecting through said attaeillning memtwo subscribing Witnesses. ber of vthe clamping mem er; an retaining means mounted upon saidstud bolts for res j i IRA SMITH taining said clamping member in fixed and -Witnesses: adjusted position. 'LYNN MURBIE,
In testimony whereof I havesigned my' 'RIOHARD TOWNSEND.
