SIGMUND F. KHN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOREIE ONE-HALF T0 JULUS FAJFNS,
0F NEW YQRK, N. Y.
SOAP-DISPENSING RECEEPT/LCLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 15, l 913.
Application tiled February 9, 1912. Serial No. 676,571..
To all whom 2f may concern.' y
Be it known that I, SIGMUND F. Koi-1N, a citizen ot the United States, and a resident of the .city ot New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county `and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Soap-Dispensing Receptacle7 of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The principal object which the present invention has in View is to provide a receptaele adapted for employment to hold soap or similar material in cake or bar forni, and to hold and dispense saponacious powder.
One embodiment of the present-.invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part ot this specification in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in Wliich- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a receptacle constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. i2 ig a vertical section taken on the line 2 2 in Fig; 3; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2.
The receptacle, when constructed in accordance with the pre'aent invention, provided with a. box-like body portion tl, shaped and arranged to torni a hanging' tab tl.naid tab havinga perforation 'l0 wherewith to suspend the reeeptaele on the side wall of a. Standing structure. The upper seetion ot the body portion 5% is substantially rectangular in form.
Set in the troni. wall ot the body portion 8 is a suitable mirror 1l, held in the -aid wall and in line with an opening 't'ol'nied in the face thereof by a rabheted llange lf2. The back of the mirror is properly protected from the action ot' the saponaeious pmvder A with which the receptacle is loaded.
'lhe lower portion of the body ot the reeeptaele is eontraeted to torni a hopper lil. The hopper 13 is ronstrieted at the lower portion to torni a delivery mouth ulrich is normally closed by a, valve plate it. the plate 14 has rigidly attached thereto and located thereabove a rod l5, at the upper end whereof is attached agitator bars or rods lil. The rods 15 and 1G are depressed through the body of the material when the valve is forced open, and lifted therethrough when the valve is closed. In this manner the material A is agitated and prevented from cover 25 is provided with a caking or setting. The Contracted inouth ot the hopper 13 opens into a delivery spout 1T, the end whereof is disposed in any suitable manner best adapted to deliver the contents into fthe hand ot' the operator. The valve plate 1l is held in lit'ted position to close the mouth ot' the hopper by a spring 18. v The spring .t8 surrounds a plunger 19', the inner end whereof is rigidly connected with the plate 14. The plunger 19 is guided by perfor-ations formed in the cover plate 20 and the partition 21. The cover plate 2O is, by preference, .integrally toi-ined with the tace plate 22, an extension of which plate fornis the outer surface o'tthe spout 17. When the plate with the cover plate 20, are setin position they forni a housing for the plunger 19 and .sp1-ing 18 to protect the latter troni contacting with the material A. To operate the plunger l9`and the valve 14 eonneeted therewith the plunger ,19 is provided wth a pressure dish the operator in the 23 a grip tab 2lis plate 2Q.
With 'a' receptacle eonstrui'ted and arranged as above described and as `ahown in the aeeonipauying drawings, the operation i5 as follows: The granulated vmaterial it having been plaeed in the body portion 8, the operator passes a linger ot one hand lielow the grip tab Z-t and presses the thunib ot' the. ysaine hand against the dial; E23 until the `apriug lh? yielding` permita the plunger lt) and plate l-l-eonueeted therewith to be depressed in the line ot extension ot the plunger lt). lt will he noted that the trout edge ot the platei-t rides against the inner surface o'l the taee plate 22. 'lhe delivery opening' ot'v the hopper l() is shaped to aeeolnniodate the neeessv-iry nioveiuent on the part ot' the rod ,l5 to aceonnnmlate the lateral lehi't't ot' the plate lvl. ihe contracted opening ot' the hopper Iii being in this.l main manipulation of the disk extended from the face I ner t'reer, the material .t flows through the pout l? and ia delivered upon the tree hand ot the operator. When .autlieient material. han1 been delivered the disk 23 is released, when the spring 18 operates to close the plate llupon the contracted opening of the hopper 13.
lhe material .ti is placed in the body portion 8 by lifting the cover 25. The cover 25 is hinged at 2G to the face plate 12. The pocket 27 the To assist l sides whereof are converged 'to form a V- shaped trough. substantially as shown 1n Fig. 2 ot' the drawings. The cover is provided with flange-like edges 28 which titA over the upper edges of the sides of the body portion 8 to safeguard the material A within the body portion from seepage or draina of moisture from the' bar or cake of soap for which the pocket 27 serves as a receptacle.
In the converged lower end of the pocket 27 I dispose a removable rack. As lshown 'in the drawings the rack is provided with V-shaped end plates 29. The plates 29 are connected by a rod 30 which extends across the pocket 27.
lt will be understood that while I have shown one rod 3() and connecting end plates, the number of rods may be augmented to form a grid or rack to prevent the soap passing into the sharp angle of the pocket ,27.
,a T o aid in manipulating the cover 25 the same is provided with a handle butt-on 31.
When it is desired to clean pocket 27 the cover 25 is inverted to deliver the soap and the supporting rack therefor from the said ivluzrcol" is formed a delivery Opening; all Vo-utwarilly-curvcd projecting spout disposed below said bottom and opening therein; a
. valve-plate disposed, in said spout to close the opening in said Yfunnel-shapcd bottom a plunger rigidly connected with said plate and extending parallel to the wall of said funnel-shaped bottoni; aspiral spring infolding said plunger' and normally operating to 'liitsaid plunger; a plate to close the opening of said funnel-shaped bottom; a rod rigidly connected to and vertically extended above said plate into the interior of said body; and a plurality of radially-disposed rods rigidly connected to said first-mentioned rod and adapted to agitate the contents of said body portion when said plunger is manipulated to open and close said valve.`
2. A receptacle such as described, comprising a body portion, rectangular in horizontal cross section; a hopper bottom for said body portion, having a delivery opening at tin lower end thereof; a spout outwardly curved and covering said delivery opening, said spout being formed in part by a tace-platox shaped to correspond with said hopper bottom, said face-plate being spaced. apart from said hopper bottom to form a channel therebetween; a cover for said channel; a partition between said face-plate Aand said hopper bottom; a valve-plate disposed in said spout below the delivery opening of said hopper bottom; a rod rigidly secured to said valveplate and extended above the same within said body portion; a plurality of agitating rods radially .arranged and rigidly secured to said irst-n'ientioned rod; a plunger rigidly secured to said valve-plate and extended through the channel between thc hopper and face-plate, said plunger being guided in perforatious formed therefor in said cover and partition for the channel formed by the delivery hopper and said face-plate; and a spiral spring wrapped around said plunger to rest upon said partition and to normally raise said plunger and said valve-plate, to close said delivery opening in said hopper bottom, and to project thc end of said plunger beyond said channel, to permit manual manipulation of the saine.
y In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. f
