FRANCIS T. JOHNSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SAFETY DEVICE FOR WRINGERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application tiled December 28, 1911. Serial N 0. 668,362.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS T. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Safety Devices for VVringers, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention relates to means for releasing the rolls of wringers inemergency' cases, and has for its object to provide a A, A are the vertical side bars of the,
wringer, B, B the rolls and C a cross bar which is placed loosely in the space between the two portions of the vertical side bars. Between the cross bar and the upper roll is disposed the tension springs D D.
E E are U-shaped clips which attach by a cross bolt E to a block E secured by the screws E to the side bars. bolt F in the upper part of each clip is preferably provided with a roller F which-bears upon the upper surface of the outer. end of the cross bar C.
G Gare links pivoted together at G and each notched at G so as to engage each the' upper portion of one clip. The pin J,
.which pivotally connects the two links G G,
is adapted to slide in a'slot J in a standard J which rises from the cross bar C. On one end of the pin is downwardly depending bar J 3 with a handle J and on the other end of the pin isa cord J 5 adapted to run over pulleys J J on the cross bar. Thence it descends and is attached to the lever- K, which projects :from the fulcrum K? and terminates in the foot piece Kt. 1 I
Itwill be understood that these devices thus described are illustrated more or less diagrammatically. The object isto' show one way. in which my invention can be car-f ried out and applied to a wringer.
A transverse Great modifications of the device could be made without departing from the spiritof my invention.
The use and operation of the invention is as follows: Assuming that the device has been applied, .the wringer will have the appearance substantially as indicated in Fig.
1, and the two wring'er rolls will be forced together by the spiral springs in the usual manner. In the meantime there is available and Within easy reach in front of the operator either the handle or the cord leading to the foot lever. If the operator should get his hand between the wringer rolls'or some emergency should arise which would call for immediate release of the pressure which forces the two rolls together, the operator can either b pressing upon the foot lever or the hand e J draw down the two links and thus spread their ends. This action will immediately force the two clips outclip rollers which move along the surface of the ends of the cross-bar. The cross-bar Patented Apr, 8, 1913.
ywardly, the action being facilitated by the being otherwise disconnected, is immediately prising a frame, a cross-bar, springs between the bar and the rolls, clips pivoted on the frame adapted to overhang the ends of the cross-bar and means for pushing the clips outwardly to disenga e the same and release the cross-bar, said 0 ips pivoted to blocks projecting ,from the side surface of the frame. i
3. A safetydevicefor wringer rolls comprising a frame, a crossebar, springs between I the bar and the rolls, clips pivoted on the frame adapted to overhang the ends of the J cross-bar and means for pushing the clips outwardly to disengage the same and release the'cross-ba'r, said disengaging means com-' prising laterally pushing parts.
' A safety devlce for wringer rolls comprising aframe, a cross-bar, springs between the bar and the rolls, clips ivoted on the frame adapted to overhang t e ends of the cross-bar, and means for pushing the clips outwardly to disengage the same and release the cross-bar, said disengagin means comprising toggle bars whose ends engage the clips and means for depressing the other ends of theto-ggle bars. I
5. A safety device for .wringer rolls comprising a frame, a cross-bar, springs between the bar and the rolls, two holding devices for holding the cross-car to the frame and links pivotally secured together above the cross-bar their ends abutting the two holding devices and means for pulling the ends of the links down to disengage the holding devices.
6. A safety device for wringer rolls comprising a frame, a cross-bar, springs between the rolls and the ends of the cross-bar, clips pivoted to the frame and overhanging the ends of the cross-bar, toggle bars pivoted together above the crossbar and adapted to abut the clips and means for pulling the inner ends of the toggle bars down to spread 25 the bars and disengage the clips.
