7 Claims.
The invention relates to wringers and particularly to mop wringers and has, among its principal objects, the provision of a construction whereby the wringing rollers may be actuated by the user while in a more or less erect position to thus eliminate the necessity of bending or stooping to perform this work. It is an object in the invention to provide a construction capable of causing the wringing rollers to be operated through the agency of the foot of a person and to also dispose the means for accomplishing this advantage in a manner so that manipulation by the foot may be conveniently performed.
The invention also contemplates arranging the mechanism for actuating the wringing rollers relatively to a supporting element of the frame for said rollers so that the force applied to actuate said mechanism is directed toward the support to thus prevent upsetting of the device upon actuation of said mechanism. 7
The invention has these and other objects, a of which will be explained in detail and more readily understood when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing which illustrates various embodiments of which the invention is susceptible, it being therefore manifest that other arrangements may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the appended claims forming a part hereof.

The mop wringer structure illustrated in the drawing is comprised of a main or supporting frame 10 and a swinging frame 11 which is connected to the supporting frame at the pivot 12. The main frame 10 has a laterally extending portion 13 and this main frame is of a generally U-shaped construction and provides the substantially vertical arms 14 and 15, between the upper ends of which a wringing roller 16 is mounted. The swinging frame 11 carries a wringer roller 17 which is mounted between the arms 18 and 19 of the swinging frame. This swinging frame is generally U-shaped and is provided to form the foot lever 20 which, when actuated, causes the wringer roller 17 to be brought into and out of cooperative relation with the wringer roller 16. The shaft 22 of the wringer roller 16 is, in the present instance, provided with a sprocket 23 and the main frame 10 supports a sprocket 24 which is rotatively connected to a projection 25 which, it will be noted, projects in the direction of the support 13 of the main frame 10. A sprocket chain 26 is entrained over the sprockets 23 and 24 and this chain is provided with a plurality of pedals or foot pieces 27 which are adapted to be engaged by the operator to impart motion to the chain and to the wringer roller 16. It will be noted that the sprocket 24 is offset relatively to the sprocket 23 in the direction of the support 13 and, therefore, pressure applied to the foot piece will be transmitted to the support 13 and tipping of the structure prevented. A member 28' is secured to the main frame 10 and is located in the rear of a portion of the sprocket chain 26 to support this portion of the chain during operation of the chain by means of the foot of a person.
From the foregoing explanation it is believed evident that the operator may apply pressure to the lever 20 and cause the wringer roller 17 to be brought into functionally operative position with the roller 16 and may employ his other foot to cause operation of the mechanism to actuate the wringer roller 16 and cause wringing of the mop to be accomplished.
The structure illustrated in Figure 3 contemplates the use of a wringer roller 16a, a sprocket 23a, a sprocket 24a and a sprocket chain 26a, which are mounted upon the main frame 10a having a laterally extending supporting base 13a. The arrangement illustrated in Figure 3 contemplates the utilization of a lever 28 which is pivoted at 29 and is provided with a pawl 30. A spring 31 is employed having one end connected with the lever 28 and the opposite end connected with a pin 29 which projects from the main frame 10a. This arrangement provides means for engaging the sprocket chain and causing it to be actuated to transmit its motion to the wringer roller 16a. It is understood that this arrangement also utilizes a wringer roller 17a and a pivoted frame 11a, such as previously described.
The structure illustrated in Figure 4 also utilizes a wringing roller having a sprocket and a chain which is entrained over a sprocket 32. The arrangement illustrated in Figure 4 contemplates the use of a channel shaped guideway 33 which is connected with the main frame 34 throughthe agency of elements such as 35. A foot piece generally designated 36 is arranged in the channel for movement longitudinally thereof. This foot piece has a body portion 37 which carries a pawl 38 which is adapted to engage the cross pieces of the sprocket chain and thus impart the movement of the foot piece to the chain. It is understood that the foot piece 36 extends through a slot 39 formed in the channel shaped member 33. A coiled spring 40 has one end connected with the body 37 of the foot piece and has the opposite end connected with a pin 41, this spring being, provided to restore the foot piece after each action thereof. The pawl 38 is provided with a coiled spring 42 which will allow the pawl 38 to assume a position which will allow the foot piece to be actuated by the spring when pressureflis. released from the foot piece. .[I'hebody rnember 3'7 is recessed as at 43 for the reception of the pawl 38 and is constructed to provide an abutment l4 which engages the pawl 38 and prevents its movement in the direction of the abutment and, therefore, as pressure is applied tothe foot piece, the pawl will properly engage the chain and cause it to be actuated to thus cause rotation of the wringei roller. -From the foregoingdescription of the invention, it is "believed evident that a simple and effective structure is produced which will allow the wringing operation to be performed without requiring the user to bend or stoop in the perforrna'rice of this work;
Having thus described the invention, what I desire to cover by my patent is: 1".
