Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 105,843, dated J nly 26, 1870. I
To all whom it may concern.: f
Be it known that I, SAMUEL W. POPE, of Louisville,in the countyof Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following, is afull and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon;
This invention consists in the employment of a slotted plate, in connection with a recess or notch in the end ot' the standard, for the purpose of securing the standard'to the beam.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a central longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 a plan View', of my improvement in plows.
To enable others skilled inthe art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now -proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
A represents the beam of a plow.
B represents the plow-standard, which may `be constructed in any desired form and proper manner. It is provided near its upper end with a recess or notch, b, cut or cast therein, the upper `edge of which is slightly inclined, as shown.
O represents a metal plate, which is provid ed with a slot or opening, as shown, which corresponds in size with the end of the standard B. This plate is placed over the standard and rests upon the beam. When in position one ot'its ends, which is provided with a large bear ing-surface for that purpose, is forced under the projection formed bythe recess b,by which means the shoulder of the standard below the beam is drawn up closely to it. When the plate is forced sufficiently far beneath the projection it may be secured from acciden tal displacement by means of a screw, as shown. By-
