FRUIT-PRESSING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1913.
Application led March 22, 1912. Serial 170.685,61?.
To all whom t may concern f Be it known that I, LEOPOLD HEILIG, a citizen of the United Statesof America, residing at Glencove, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit- Pressing Devices, a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. s
This invention relates to a fruit pressing device, and the primary object of my invcntion is to provide a novel device for eX- tracting juice and syrup from various kinds of fruit and vegetables, the device being ad- \f'antageously used in making sauer kraut or producing an ediblethat requires pressure in its production.
further object of this invention is to provide a pressing device that is easy to manipulate and maintain in a sanitary conditio-n, inexpensive to manufacture and purposes for which it is intended.
Reference will now be ings, wherein like spending parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pressing device, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, Fig'. 3 is an end view of the pressing' device, Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the same, Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional View of the device, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the slatted or slotted walls of the fruit receptacle.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a base block having the bottom thereof provided with transverse cleats 2. The top of the block is provided with two sets of uprights 3 and 4 having the upper ends thereof connected by longitudinal frames 5, and said frames, intermediate the connected by transverse frames 6.
The top of-the base block 1 has a seat 7 for the lower edges of a fruit receptacle, compose-d of slatted or slotted walls 8 that are retained in position upon the seat 7 by longitudinal rails 9 and transverse rails 10. 9` are detachably mounted in sockets 11 and 12 provided there for in the sets of uprights 3 and 4, and the transverse rails are notched, as at 13 to fit upon the longitudinal rails 9. The seat 7 is surrounded by grooves 14 and in communication with said grooves is an outhad to the drawof which the following isnumerals denote correends thereof, are
let spout 15 that permits of juice or syrup draining from the base block l.
Located adjacent to the uprights 4 is a supporting screw 16 that extends through a wrist pin 17 carried by the inner end of a beam 18. The beam 18 is arranged between the sets of uprights 3 and 4 and the sides of said beam have enlargements 19 to prevent the beam from longitudinally shifting in the sets of uprights. The uprights 4 are slotted, as at 20, and arranged in said slots is a transverse stop'l 21 that limits the upward movement of the beam 18.
Journaled in the outer end of the beam 18 is a transverse bearing 22, and adjustably mountedrin said bearing is a hanger 23 in the form of a screw. The lower end of the hanger 23 terminates in a bearing point 24 and said hanger is provided with a weight 25 and a handle bar 26.
The beam 18, intermediate the uprights 3 and 4 is provided with a plunger 27 having a presser head 28 within the fruit receptacle, said head having handles 29.
The device has been illustrated as upon the top of a cask or receptacle 30 that has a bung-hole to permit of juice draining into the cask, and suitably arranged upon the top of the cask is a bearing block 31 for the bearing point 24 of the hanger 23.
lVhen the device is not in use the bearing point 24 rests upon the bearing block 31 and to place the device in use, the hanger 23 is turned to elevate the beam 18 and then the fruit or vegetables to be pressed are placed within the receptacle 8. The weight 25 of the hanger 23 causes a pressure to be eX- erted within the receptacle 8 through the medium of the beam 18.
The pivoted end of the beam 18 can be adjusted to correctly position the presser head 28 within the receptacle 8 according to the amount of material wit-hin said receptacle, and in some instances, the beam 18 can be raised and lowered by revolving the hanger 23, without elevating the weight 25 from the block 31.
From the foregoing, it will be observed that I have devised a pressing device wherein a knock-down fruit receptacle is employed that can be thoroughly cleaned and maintained in a sanitary condition, and I reserve the right to use the device other than upon the top of a cask or other receptacle.
lthe lower end of the hanger,
Vhat I claim is:
1. A fruit pressing device comprising a foundation block, sets of uprights carried thereby, a knock-down fruit receptacle arranged upon said block between said uprights, a drain spout carried by said block for said fruit receptacle, a beam movable between said uprights, a presser head supported by said beam and arranged within said receptacle, a pivot pin carried by and projecting laterally from one end of the beam, a bearing carriedby and projecting laterally from the other end of the beam, a vertically Vvadjustable hanger extending through said bearing, a weight carried by and a vertically adjustable support extending through said pivot.
2. A. fruit pressing device comprising a block, sets of uprights carried thereby,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
'frames connecting the upper ends of said uprights, a receptacle carried by said block and provided with a drain, a beam extending through said sets of uprights, a pivot carried by one end of said beam, a support for said pivot, said support provided with means engaging with the pivot for vertically adjusting the latter carrying the beam therewith, a bearing projecting laterally from thev other end of the beam, a vertically adjustable hanger carried by said bearing, a weightcarried by the hanger, and a presser head arranged within said receptacle and connected to said beam.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LEOPOLD HEILIG.
