LEMON-SQUEEZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 633,247, dated September 19, 1899.
Application tiled December 16, 1898. Serial No. 699.442. (No model.)
To all wil/0711! it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLSWORTH D.'MIDDLE KAUFF, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lemon- Squeezers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the iigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and. useful improvements in that 1 class of lemonsqueezers which will automatically cut and squeeze the juice from the lemon and remove the pulp at one operation 5 and it consists in the peculiar construction, novel combination, and adaptation ofparts hereinafter described, and particularly .pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings', in which- Figure 1 is atop view of myimproved lemonsqueezer. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the squeezer. Fig. 4 isa side elevation of the clamp for attaching to a table or counter. Fig. 5 is a top view of the perforated squeezercup with the knife located therein. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the same.
Similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
1 represents a clamp which may be attached `to a table, stand, or counter by means of a thumb-screw 2, which is adapted to impinge upon the under side of said table, stand, or counter. A ring 3 is rigidly attached to the front side of the said clamp 1 in a horizontal position. A suitable handle 4 is rigidly attached to one side of the ring 3 and adapted to extend parallel with the side of the table, stand, or counter. To the opposite side of lar stem 8 elevating from the center thereof, within which stem 8 a plunger 9 is inserted. The said plunger 9 is maintained in elevated position by means of aspiral spring 10, which comprehends the said plunger 9 and'engages with the top of the stem 3 and a knob 11, which is detachably attached to the top of said plunger 9. The lower end of the plunger 9 is provided with a shoulder l2, which cn- 6o gages with a seat therefor in the stem S for the purpose of maintaining said plunger in position in said stem 3. The bot-tom of said squeezer 6 has a groove 13 in the same to accommodate the knife, and on either side of said groove 13 a pin 14 is rigidlyinserted for the purpose as will be shown. A handle 15 is rigidly attached to the squeezer 6 for the purpose of Operating the same. A yoke 16 is pivotally attached to the joints of the arms 5 7o and 7 and is provided with a lever 17, which is rigidly attached to the center thereof and extends longitudinally over the squeezer 6 I and engages with a ring 18, which is rigidly attached to the kn'ob 11. 'A lug 19 is pro- 75 vided on one side of one end of the yoke 16 and is adapted to engage with a screw or pin 20, which is inserted at a suitable pointin the side of one of the arms 5. A cover 21, of suitable material, preferably tin, is inserted over 8o the squeezer and its attendant parts and attached thereon by means of screws 29, which are inserted in holes in the arms 7 and handle 15 therefor.
A reservoir 22, similar in shape to a funnel and having a stop-cock 23 at its lower end, is
Aadapted to-be inserted in the ring 3 and is supported by a flange 24 on the top of the same, which flange 24 engages with the top of said ring 3. The said reservoir 22 is pro-9o vided with a screen 25, which is located near the bottom thereof and rigidly attached to the sides of the saine. A squeezing-cup 26 is inserted in the top of vthe reservoir 22, which cup 26 has a flange 27, similar to and adapted 95 to rest on the flange 24. Said cup 26 has its sides perforated for the purpose of allowing the juice to pass into the reservoir 22 when squeezed from the lemon. The cup 26 has two lugs 30 depending from the sides near the roo bottom thereof, such lugs and the bottom of said cup' having a slot therein, thus forming a seat in which a knife 28 rests, said knife extending slightly above the bottom of the cup 26.
The mode of operating my improved lemonsqueezer is as follows: The clamp 1 is rigidly attached to a table, counter, or stand by means of the thumb-screw 2. The reservoir and squeezing-cup, with its knife in position therein, are placed into position in the ring 3, whereupon the handle 15, carrying with it the squeezer 6, is raised and the lemon or lime is placed in the squeezing-cup 26. The handle 15 is then pressed downwardly, engaging the squeezer 6 with the lemon or lime, which is pressed against the knife 28, thereby cutting the same in twain, and, as will be seen, the juice is extracted therefrom and introduced into the reservoir to be used as required by means of the stop-cock 23. As the squeezer 6 is pressed downwardly upon the lemon the pins 14 fasten themselves into the rind thereof, and as the handle 15 and squeezer 6 are raised the said rind and pulp are lifted out of the cup 26, and when the said handle and squeezer are thrown back the lug 19 engages with the pin 20, thereby stopping the rearward progress of the lever 17 and yoke 16, which, as the lever 15 is pressed still farther, presses the lever 17 in engagement with the plunger 9, which When forced down disengages the rind and pulp from the pins 14,and the said rind is deposited in any receptacle provided therefor. Another lemon is then placed in the squeezing-c up 26 and the modus operandi repeated. When the lever 15 is pressed forward, the spring 10 forces the plunger 9 up, thereby exposing the pins 14.
W'hen it is desired to wash the diiferent parts, the cup 26 is removed, and likewise the reservoir 22. The knife '28 also may be removed from the slotted lugs 30, and the several parts may be replaced at will.
The handle 4 is adapted to assist in the pressure of the squeezer 6.
I am aware that lemon-squeezers have been made which comprise a squeezing-cup attached to a table, stand, or counter and a squeezer hinged thereto, and therefore those features I do not claim, broadly; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
